I'm trying decide if concierge is worth it for my family. We like to sleep in and am wondering if the breakfast food was replenished throughout the morning or if it was gobbled up quickly so that mid-morning, everything was gone.

Overall, did you find that they did a good job of making sure there's enough food to go around both for breakfast and evening appetizers? (I certainly won't want to take more than my fair share and wouldn't consider appetizers a replacement for dinner, but I'd hate to miss out and not get what we're paying for!)

Thanks!

Hi Jet,

I'm not much of an early riser myself... and coming to wdw from socal makes getting up early in the morning even more difficult. Even so, we found the AKL CL well stocked with goodies for breakfast until it became time to switch to lunch. We arrived "late" for breakfast several times but always found fruit, oatmeal, danishes, muffins etc. Dont' forget those freshly made smoothie drinks with unusual formulas. Exotic yet familiar and very enjoyable.

The big deal for concierge is the opportunity to go on the Sunrise Safari. Only concierge guests can do this... you go into the AK park before it opens and get a private tour... stopping along the way for photographic opportunities with the animals.... no rush... no pressure. After that tour, you go over the the tusker house for a private breakfast catered by one of the chefs just for your group. I must say it was fantastic! Then you can go on and enjoy the AK park on your own, cuz by that time its opened.

The ability to return to the AK CL throughout the day was very helpful... to get away from the sweaty crowds and screaming kids... for a cool libation in a tranquil setting. Those fruit drinks are a real pick-me-up. Evening has snacks and wonderful tastes from jiko or boma, excellent selection of wines, cordials, and deserts so delicious they will drive you mad.

Definitly worth the money.

Oooh, I didn't know about the smoothie drinks or the Sunrise Safari. It sounds wonderful! Is there an additional charge for that or is it included with the concierge cost?

Thanks for such a detailed response!

Hi Jet..

The sunrise safari is excellent and there is an additional cost of 50.00 per adult and 25.00 per child... also you are required to have admission to the DAK.

It goes twice a week.. Saturday and Wednesday and is very popular so you have to book early.

About breakfast... by 10am the selections are getting sparse.... it's much better between 8:30-9:30... and I think it is done by 10:30am.

Also another thing about concierge - you are not guaranteed a savanna view - it is on request. But I have not heard of anyone not being given one.. smoking rooms are poolview only.

I have some photos of concierge and the sunrise safari on my website link below if you are interested..

Thanks so much, >>^..^<<, your web site is wonderful!!! It was great to see all of the pictures. I'm more and more pleased that we decided on AKL. Now to convince my husband to switch to concierge...

By the way, your daughter could not look more like you!! (I'm sure you've never heard that before...:D ) I just loved the story about her little lost friends.

Awwww.. thanx, that was very sweet of you to say.

We have some great people on this board with lots of info on AKL concierge.. Darian, ducklite, Janet2k, *********** and more... post your questions and we will all help you out :D

You will not regret staying here, ther concierge team is excellent and really look after you well.

When you arrive, normally the bellman has your room package ready and takes you straight to your room - then when you have settled in you go by the lounge and sign the registration (with a drink in one hand of course :p )

The staff will contact you ahead of time and make any reservations for meals or shows you are interested in.

You get a lovely room with turndown service at night and chocolate on the pillows ;)

Also - usually a little aAfrican themed gift (which I will not spoil by revealing)

Breakfast is perfect, light snacks during the days are trail mix, cashews, gummie bears, sometimes cookies etc..

High tea is tarts, scones etc..

Dinner appetizers are skewered shrimp or chicken, salmon, flat breads, veggies and dip, sandwich roll ups, chicken nuggets, hummus, cheese and crackers, fruit etc..

Desserts - little cheescakes, tarts, cookies, chocolate covered strawberries and liquors such as baileys and drambuie, also wines

Darian mentioned the smoothies... they are yogurt, honey, fruit mixtures.. also soda, bottled water, coffee, tea, cappucino, ice tea and lemonade all day long :D

I hope you get to try it out... it's a gorgeous resort and so unique to the other properties.

Also bus transportation is excellent to all the parks
