For those who have shipped a box to Florida

I mean, if you've opted to ship a box of clothes ahead of time, rather than paying a checked bag fee, how much did it cost you? I'm flying to my dad's place in FL a week ahead of our Disney trip with my two boys. Our flight arrives at 9pm so I was thinking of shipping our clothes down ahead so I wouldn't have to deal with any checked stuff upon pickup at the airport. I know the boys will be tired and want to just get to Grandpa's house. Just curious if it was really expensive. I'd be shipping clothes, so they aren't too heavy, and carrying my toiletries on the plane.

I just sent a box on Friday from Pa to the GF. It was a 21 lb. box and it was $16.00 UPS ground. It should arrive on Wednesday. It is so worth it!

We shipped down two boxes in December. One box was 11 pounds and about $9.00 and another box full of clothes for $18.00. And at the end of the trip I loaded up the box with all the dirty clothes and mailed it back. So easy and worth it not to lug heavy suitcases around. I took everything to the UPS Store and then boxed and shipped, very easy.

you are kidding right? Dont you get up to 2 bags at 85lbs each to check? Why would you pay to ship... it isnt that hard to do baggage claim and what if your package gets there ahead of or behind you?

Most airlines now only allow 1 checked bag per person weighing up to 50 pounds. Anything over 50 pounds and you are charged a fee per pound. It is about $25 per extra checked bag over one.

Your hotel will hold your box for you... It is less expensive to send a box then to pay for extra baggage...

Huh?! What airline have you flown in the past 5 years or more that has allowed 85 lbs per checked bag?

And no, all but 2 airlines now charge for checking bags. $15 for the first and $25 for the second. Exorbitant fees for over 2 bags checked.

Its okay if a package arrives a few days ahead of your scheduled arrival, the hotel will hold it for you. I shipped a package to CBR on Thursday overnight to arrive Friday. The first swapper of mine was set to arrive today, so they held the package for two days before she arrived.

I shipped a 16lb package but it was overnight so it cost 27 dollars (with a fedex discount through my employer). So mine probably doesn't help .

I shipped a box on Saturday via UPS ground from Staples. It was larger than a suitcase (actually, a foam shipping cooler in a cardboard box) filled with our diapers, snacks, a Mr. Potatohead for the planeride home, ponchos, light up necklaces & wands (for days 2 - 5), etc. The box was 30 x 18 x 24 and cost $26.74. A second bag on Delta (first is $15) would be $25, then I would have to lug it through the airport on arrival, and on the way home. To me, it was worth $1.74 extra to avoid all of that hassle, and to have our box at the resort when we get there (it will arrive on Thursday, we will get there on Sunday). When we finish, I plan to pack up the dirty clothes in this box & send back, then pack our goodies in our suitcases.

My son LOVED sending a box to Mickey to hold for him.

How do you ship the box back home? Can you ship it right from your resort or did you rent a car and have to drive somewhere to ship it home. We are a family of seven, paying for luggage can get expensive.
