and are looking for new ones ---- here's a place to vent. Today was the last day at work for 3 people I work with -- their jobs went to India. To add insult to injury, they had to train their replacements. That really, really sucks.

They were all IT people and were in the $100K a year salary range - all are over 50 and have few prospects of finding a replacement job like that. None of them can retire yet.

I know 5 more people in Finance who are in the same boat and will be out of a job by year end - those jobs are going to India too. I have 5 people in India who report to me and I can tell you, none of them are in the same league as the people they replaced - lots of stuff falls on the floor. It will catch up eventually.

I hate this. I also hate the terms TEAM and DO THE NEEDFUL - both phrases are used a lot by India.

So, team, do the needful and buy American as much as you can and refuse to talk to people in call centers unless they speak American English.

My mother refused to pay her Advantia cc bill (the bank closed) until she could speak to someone in the USA. The people in India kept lying to her and saying she had all these late fees that she owed and they would take off...she had one...

She finally got an email from someone today after two weeks of hanging up on people and got an American citizen on the phone...

Bravo mom!

And by the way, being out of work stinks to high heaven...

Jen, good luck to you and Chris - I hope you find much better jobs soon - really soon.

Amen! This has been the Ganley family philosophy to live by for some time. I'm so sick of getting a "Mike" or "John" on the phone that doesn't understand me and I don't understand him!

at least you were able to hear what their first name was. :lmao:

i am always saying "whaaaaatttttt?" "i didn't hear you!"

:rotfl2:

That's exactly what I mean!!! Do they really think that I buy that thier mothers actually named them "Mike" or "John". No lie, I actually had one guy with a very heavy accent tell me his name was "John McLane". Really??? And you decided to become a telemarketer after you saved the Nakitomi building from the terrorists??

Well,,I didn't work a office job,,but I know oh so well that dreaded feeling of hopelessness due to job loss. The economy bottomed out and PRESTO:wizard: NO WORK,, literally over night ! Sat my butt home for exactly 4 months before landing a job,,and now we are making ALMOST a whopping HALF of what we use to make, with the BOTH of us working! But thats OKAY,,the goverment is going to save us all ,:thumbsup2

I will say this,,our profession is just now start'n to pick up a little,,IF OUR GOVERMENT doesn't screw things up,,MAYBE,,just MAYBE it will stay on a roll,,,even if it is a extremely slow roll.

Thank you for listening,,or at least giving me this space.:goodvibes

I'm sick of "American's" not being able to speak English, let alone speaking to someone in India.

I recently had to deal with Bank of America, and I swear.....out of the many calls I made, the people on the other end spoke so poorly that I had to "ax" them to spell words. Does "ax" give anyone a clue?

Also, I deal with a lot of people at THD who are originally from Mexico and try to get away without speaking english.....that is until I make an untoward comment under my breath....then they understand completely and are suddenly speaking in english. It's a miracle, I tell ya!!

One of my best friends is Cuban-American and can speak English normally because she grew up speaking both fluently. It is such a hoot listening to her speak to her parents and how fast they switch back and forth between the two, but I digress...

I love going into a store and getting into a situation where someone of Latin decent pulls the lack of English copout, and she goes ballistic on them in their native tongue...I cannot even keep up with her and I can understand a bunch...

It is oh so funny to see their face because they never see it coming...:rotfl2:

My wishes and prayers to you all. I'm very humbled when I hear these stories. I am self employed and realize my customers could go belly up and I would be out too. I hope all of you score great jobs.

I echo the same sentiment as Donnie. I feel so fortunate. I was really bummed about having to cancel a major camping trip up to Illinois with about 60 fellow T@B folks due to a major project that was just released, but then I always remember I could NOT be working, and don't worry about it anymore.

That's like my son's ex-girlfriend. Her parents are from Argentina. They speak Spanish and English in the home. She speaks both fluently..and English without any accent.
She and my son went on a trip to Cancun..and there was some issue with the room. My son was getting no where...because of the langauge barrier. Or so he thought.:rolleyes1.they understood him perfectly and were blowing him off. She listened to the whole thing..then spoke to them in Spanish. They were floored:eek:..and very embarrased. The issue was resolved.

I can relate to this...They asked for people in my dept to go to china 2 yrs ago to train them...And last year they asked for some to go to mexico...Guess where our jobs went...Mexico and China...

If the economy is recovering, it has nothing to do with the massive spending or incentives the government is putting into place, since the impact of this won't be realized for years, by the President's own admission. Any recovery is due to small businesses and their efforts to keep going in order to survive. These are the sources of new jobs for everyone who is being laid off by the big companies outsourcing to foreign countries or declaring bankruptcy.

If that's the case, then they should impose higher taxes on small business then to make up for all the money the big companies are writing off and the government is wasting. I'm sure that's coming next lol. Small businesses have always been the backbone of this country. The big corps have always passed the buck to the small guy.
