For those who have gone to college....

I love threads like these :) we are just an interesting group of people(and it also explains how we can afford to indulge our Disney obsession;))
I have a BSN and an MSN, which of course I use every day as a nurse.

for the Brits and Canadians what exactly is an honour degree? My BSN was magna cum laude.....is that the same thing?

B.A. in English and secondary education. There is a song about it:
"What do you do with a B.A. in English? What is my life going to beeeeee? 4 years of college and plenty of knowledge have earned me this useless degree!" (and it's SO true, unless you WANT to be a teacher which I don't).

I homeschool my kids, so I guess I use it there to some degree, especially when 11yo says to the TV, "it's badLY, it's an adverb modifying how you did" :happytv:

that said, with too much retail on my resume, I returned to grad school to get a degree in management/human resources (the ulterior motive was to qualify for an internship at WDW ;) ) I did the College Program last Jan and a management internship from June to this Jan. I just started my new job as a duty manager at the All Star resorts, so I guess this degree is paying off (even though I still have 3 classes and 2 seminars left and I don't really care anymore :rolleyes1)

I have an AS,BSN,MSN... I use the 1st degree as a nurse, I used my 2nd degree to get my MSN, and I am waiting to start my new job as an ARNP in order to use my MSN degree.... I LOVE being a nurse...

My degree is in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration with a concentration in Industrial Food Service.

I was a manager at an Olive Garden out of college after waitressing at a different one for college. I stayed there for about a year, met DH and realized that the kind of "Personal" life I wanted to live did not match up with the kind of life running a restaurant led to so I left. I worked in Claims and then later litigation for two different large Insurance Companies before becoming a SAHM.

When/If I do go back to work, I will probably go back to school first because I do not want to do either of those two things again. The only thing I would be interested in would be working/running a school cafeteria or opening my own cafe style breakfast/lunch place within a large office park or building.

We have General degrees and Honour degrees:

General - 3 year program
Honours - 4 years

In order to do an Honours, your marks have to be high enough to qualify for that additional year of study, as we have thesis classes and projects. You only need general degrees for many careers, but for many careers, the honours degree gets more money, etc. Since I graduated with my honours degree in English, I started off at highest teaching salary in my category due to that, and high marks. I didn't do it for this reason though, I just love school!

I am a highschool teacher, so I got my honours in English as I knew it would be important for me as a teacher. I am still not sure if I am doing my masters in English or Education, so I can do either now that I have my honours in English.

I only got a general degree in Sociology, as I knew I wasn't going to do my masters in that field (despite my profs wanting me to).

Hope this better explains, Tiger :)

I have a BS and Master's in Accounting and am a CPA. I have always worked in public accounting or industry in something related to finance or accounting, so yes, my degree is relevant to my job.
