For those who have gone to college....

I have a BA Hons in Music and a post grad teaching qualification. I use the post grad as I am a primary school teacher, but am head of maths in the school and not music, so i don't really use my degree at all. Having said that I could not teach without an honours degree here.

Why are you letting age stop you? You should pursue it if it is something you would like to do.

Truthfully, I am nearing being eligible for retirement (we have to have 25 years in), and it's looking tempting. I don't want to incur any debt at this point (making it easier for me to choose retirement when I want) and couldn't pay for law school without some student loans.

My daughter just married, and my husband and I are looking forward to taking more time for ourselves (traveling, etc.). Additionally, I have some chronic health issues that are worsened by stress. I can pretty much guarantee that law school would be stressful! :rotfl2:

My husband has tried to persuade me to go back for most of the 25 years we've been married. I really should have considered it when I was younger, but now I don't think I want to work that hard. ;)

I have a BS in Computer Science too. And yes I use it (and oh so much more I've learned since then) at my job... which I hate.

If I had it to do again... and I wanted to incur the debt... I'd get a degree in journalism because while I'm actually quite good at the whole math/science thing, I prefer the creativity that writing offers.

My grandpa went back to school at age 62 when he retired. He had always wanted to get a college degree and wasn't able to go to college right out of high school. My Grandma had passed away and so he started taking a night class at the local state university. He ended up graduating with a double major in humanities and wood shop and continued to take classes for the next 15 years (took classes for 20+ years). Our state has a special tuition program for senior citizens where it costs something like $15/credit. He ended up traveling all over the world with the elderhostl program at the college too. You are NEVER too old to go back to school.

What an interesting thread!

My degree is in journalism with an advertising emphasis, but I have never worked in advertising. In an odd way though, I do feel that I use those skills. I often look at my target audience and gear my arguments or reasons for doing something in a way that is most appealling to that person -- usually dh. LOL!!!

We are also in the process of starting up a new business, so I will use it for that as well.

I have gone back to school, but never on a full time basis and not with any degree in mind. I have gone just to take courses that interest me. It has been great. I also think that since I'm am really interested in those subjects (sign language, for example) it has been easy and stress-free.

I have a BS in Biology that was required for my job as a zookeeper. I love my job and don't regret the degree, but I'm pretty sure the only reason a college degree is required is to decrease the pool of qualified applicants.

I have a bachelors in Elementary Ed and a masters as an Intervention Specialist
I teach part time and it has helped me with my own kids.
If I had it to do over again, I'd get a counseling degree but I'm not considering going back. I just finished my masters.

I have a BS and an MBA in Finance. I am a SAHM, so I don't use my degrees everyday.

I have a BA in business, a master's degree, and a JD.

I'm a lawyer, so I guess I use the JD.

I have a BS in Accounting and an MBA. I have worked in this field since the day I finished school 27 years ago.

two degree's one in chemistry, and one in nutrition. Also have taken and got cert. in medical coding and billing. did not like that.
My field I have worked in...food, and R & D. There is no job out there. So I am in school (age 48, never to late) for Biomedical/ Biology. With a higher degree minor in Chemistry.
I also hold cert in HACCP and serve safe. Looking for one of two things, board of health or Lab tech in hospital, R & D..or cancer research.
so school full time and work part time, ( most of the time) lol

this is what I have been part of, kind of unique field...but fun!

I have a BA in Geography with a minor in History. I also have additional courses in Urban Planning. I have used some Urban Planning when I worked as a Municipal Development Officer. I would love to go back to school, but can't decide what to take. It would be a toss up between getting my Master's and PhD in History/History of Religion or some kind of graphic art courses. I guess it would depend on if I had to find a job after.

I have a BS in Nursing and will graduate in May (121 days!) with a MS in Nursing, Clinical Research Management. I work as a clinical research nursing coordinator, so I use both of my degrees everyday and love it. Research is my passion. I didn't even know this job was a possibility when I was in nursing school!

I have a BS in Computer Science with an emphasis on Information Management. I use a lot of what I learned every day, but not all of it (thank God programming isn't something I have to deal with anymore!) I don't think I'd go back to get a different degree in something, but I could see myself someday going back for my master's.

I have a BA in English Comp Lit and a BFA in Theatre. I've been in the broadcasting field since 1980.

No need for advanced degrees in my business, experience is what counts. I am also a believer that education is NEVER wasted. I've never believed in going to college for a job, you go to get educated, the job will find you.

I have a BS in Industrial Engineering and I've never found a way to use it. Whenever I've found something that looks promising the company either closes and moves away or they downsize and I end up in Customer Service.

Advice: NEVER work in Customer Service for a second! (Unless you want to of course.) If you do companies continually try to put you there because CSR's are always in short supply.

As for going back to school, I think that I'm too old for that now. I wish that I had though.

BA in Political Science and a JD. I am a lawyer and represent a few different municipalities so I use both degrees every day. If I could afford it I would be a professional student. I love to learn.

I have a BS in Accounting and worked in corporate accounting for more than 10 years before becoming a SAHM. I never liked it much and actually hated it sometimes. Not necessarily the work, but the office environment. It reminded me so much of junior high/high school.

I'm headed back to school this Tuesday to begin training as a Physical Therapy Assistant. I'm hoping to work in the field of home health.

I have a B.S. in Biology and am currently working toward a higher degree (probably Ph.D.) in that field. I guess I am happy with my choice, at least most days.

I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching for 32 years. I continually take professional development courses to keep myself current in my field. I get up every morning with a smile on my face glad to be going to the greatest job on Earth! (Next to being a wife and mother:rolleyes1) I have no desire to go into administration because all my joy comes from the face of an 8 year old who mastered a technique, conquered a problem, slugged the kid next to her, or puked on the carpet (which just happened today!) Oh well some days ARE better than others!:rotfl2:
