we're going for 10 days in August. I'm packing 3 shorts and 3 capris. Is it too hot for capris? I'll pack a windbreaker for rain, but I don't need a sweater, right? a/c doesn't bother me. I'm hoping to only have to do laundry once

No sweaters or long sleeves necessary. :thumbsup2 And this will be are fifth two week August trip in a row. Capris are okay if that's what you like. I tend to wear shorts or light summer dresses/skirts.

The only real use you would get out of packing a sweater is to look at it later, laugh and say "I can't believe I packed sweaters". Been there, done that.;)
Even for rain I didn't want to put the poncho on. It felt like being stuffed into a 95 degree ziploc bag. It stuck to me, I still got wet, and it was just uncomfortable.

I do highly recommend shoes that go from wet to dry easily (like Tevas or Keens). That way you can plod through the puddles and they are still comfortable and dried out by afternoon. The rain really wasn't a deterrent. It cleared the parks and cooled things down a bit. We keep going when it's raining. I wore mostly capris. 4 or 5 more inches of fabric really didn't make me any hotter. It's just plain hot.

I like warm weather, hate the cold.

But, tbh, I have no words for the heat of Orlando in August. No words. Beyond words.... GL

Don't discount needing to shower and change midday. Haven't been in August, but I live in south Mississippi where the weather is similar to Orlando. It's 7:33 pm and 93 degrees with a 103 heat index. That humidity makes you sticky and uncomfortable easily. And nights likely won't cool off below 80 degrees.

Edit to add: at 7:15 am its 80 degrees 81 percent humidity heat index of 85. Already warm

Just spending a little amount of time outside can make you want a shower and to change.

It's very hot!! I usually prefer capris but not for that time in Florida! Tanks & shorts is all you need!

August is hot. I wear capris because no one needs to see any more of my varicose veins than necessary :lmao:. I just choose some nice light cotton ones and don't have a problem. I only wore dresses once or twice but don't like it because it could be cumbersome getting on/off rides (i.e. Space mountain :rotfl2:)

As for tops, I have at least an extra one or two. There have been times when I have needed to change in the afternoon due to excessive moisture :rolleyes1. Tanks are the best as long as you get good sunscreen coverage.

There have been times that I needed a sweater in a restaurant, but not enough to bother packing one.

:goodvibes

It is hot but I still wear capris. The difference is I don't wear heavy cotton or denim capris. I wear ripstop capris from Eddie Bauer or similar. They are thinner fabric and dry quickly when wet. I bring a lot of tops as I definitely change more than once a day. As for my feet, I wear Crocs as it rains almost every day in August and I don't want to wear wet socks/shoes. Also, the Crocs are cooler...

As the saying goes, it's not the heat it's the humidity.
I hate being sweaty. I like to change after the mid afternoon swim into clean clothes. I wouldn't bring capris-maybe one or two for nighttime restaurants, little dressier places, but otherwise it's shorts for me.
Have fun!

Since the Fl sun and humidity are relentless I find sundresses to be the most comfortable. Also don't like my out of shape arms so I will wear a light woven jacket type sweater.

I find that in August I like to have a minimum of 2 shirts a day and sometimes two pairs shorts. We always go back to the hotel in the afternoon to avoid the heat and either swim or nap. So i like fresh clothing for the evening. I always do laundry at Disney!:lmao: I am excited because this time we will have a washer and dryer in our room! Can't wait!!:yay:

I always bring a sweater because I get cold in the restaurants that have their AC cranked up. I don't bother with capris, I wear skirts and dresses in August, much more comfortable in the heat.
I would also pack more than 6 items for a 10 day stay because you may find that you are going through more than one outfit a day due to the heat and humidity.

Traveling in August is one reason I feel like I can actually pack and fly without paying huge fees.

We only wore shorts. The idea of putting anything lower on my legs was torture even at night. We never felt cold in places with AC we enjoyed the cool and any goosebumps it brought us. :).

That said it's easy to pack for because you only need to pack for one season...unlike a Nov trip where it could be 80 one day and 30 the next.

Enjoy your trip!!!

Capris would be to hot and uncomfortable for me. I wear shorts and dresses.

I agree with a pp about shoes that can get wet. My ds last summer wanted to bring his brand new high tops. I knew better. He was 9 going on 10 and he loves the water. Any spot he saw water he was there.

The one day we needed a poncho we chose not to bring it and hung out in Norway til it blew over. I don't think anyone was out there walking, if they did they'd be crazy as it was thundering and lightening as well.

Also add us to the multiple showers per day/mid day break and 2 outfits per day including undergarments. I think I brought a maximum of 6 outfits for each of us x5. And I brought tide pods for laundry and dryer sheets. I did laundry either every day or every other day but it helped that we did the parks just 2 days in a row and then had a non park day so if I needed a nap during my mid day break I could do that vs laundry. I was also awake by 6 on our non park days so I did laundry while everyone else was asleep and I was at the pool reserving my spot for the day by 8. It worked well since dh shooed me out and he put away the clean clothes and I hung out alone!

As far as capris, I just wear shorts. I am far from thin but there are people who wear worse things then me. Heck I even wore a tank too with my flabby arms last August. But if capris are comfortable for you then wear them. I would say wear them for a day when the temps are above 90 and oppressive and go for a walk for an hour or two in the sun and see how it goes.

August packing = no long pants! not long sleeve shirts and no coats! The a/c never bothered us either even when we were all soaked head to toe from kali!

I live here and yes, August is the hottest month. It suddenly got unbearably hot on Monday and I expect it to stay until mid-September, as usual, but August for some reason always seems the hottest. It may say "high of 96" but the "feels like" temperature will be 100+ and the humidity is just sticky and icky. No relief in the shade.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!!!!

I mostly wear shorts and dresses this time of year. I avoid "capris" but that's just because they cut you mid-calf, which is not at all flattering. "Ankle pants" are cute and if they're thin they're good for evening. You can try wearing a bikini top or bathing suit under your top/shorts. Sweat seems to bother me less at Disney if I'm in a bathing suit, plus I don't mind getting wet if I want to cool off in one of the water sprayer areas.

I think the A/C that is pumped into buildings is entirely too cold and always have a thin cardigan with me, but if it doesn't bother you then don't worry about long sleeves.

We live in Houston, TX so Disney in August feels just like being at home, LOL! We take nothing but shorts and t-shirts/tank tops. My whole family wears Keen or Teva sandals the entire time.

I went a few years ago in August and it was HOT and crowded! Vowed never to go again at that time BUT had a vacation scheduled for Sept but due to DH's work had to move it up to Aug...eek. So just hoping for the best!

Some people wear jeans and are comfortable.

You might want a long sleeved lightweight "camping/hiking shirt" - something to keep the sun off your back, arms and shoulders if you get a little burned. Something like this (although this is Columbia and expensive) http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Wome...hletic-clothing&ie=UTF8&qid=1404307532&sr=1-9.

Likewise, you might want to make sure you have lightweight pants - again, to block the sun. Sunscreen helps - and a lot of Disneyworld happens inside - but after a pool day you might want more coverage.
