do you file the long form, and if so how easy is it? I have been tempted but I ultimately pay someone for fear I will do something very wrong:scared1:

I use Turbo Tax. I don't know what a long form is? :confused3 But I can tell you that Turbo Tax is really easy to use. I find it really user friendly. It really makes it simple. It will run its own audit to make sure there are no errors. There is an option before you e-file or print your forms if you want to buy extra protection if you are audited and an error is found. I am not sure what the exact wording is as we never buy the extra protection.

Thanks. The long form is when you itemize deductions. I am so tempted to try Turbo Tax because the accountant we use takes forever to get our returns filed. I'll give him my papers by the end of January and he never files before April:confused3 and he never has a reason or explanation for us.

I file the long form and I have 1099's with business write offs Schedule C and it is real easy. It walks you through everything. Try it and if you have issues you can get them done by april.

I file using Turbo Tax every year and it is great. We file using the long form and there is a whole big section devoted to itemized deductions. It runs through and it asks what applied to you this year. You fill everything in. If it turns out that the standard deduction is better, it lets you know. :thumbsup2 I say go for it, its very user friendly.

I used Turbo Tax this year, and I itemized deductions. I have to agree, it's very user friendly, prompts you if something doesn't jive and walks you through the whole form! :thumbsup2 If your household income is under a certain amount (I can't remember the figure), you can efile for free using Turbo Tax through the IRS site. And if not, there are many discounts offered for the Turbo Tax Program (through banks, credit cards, etc).

Last year, I tried 2 different programs and would use Turbo Tax everytime!

I much appreciate the feedback. I may just give it a try. Do you go to Turbo Tax site or do you purchase the program?

I bought Turbotax from costco. You can itemize. Actually it does everything for you. It will say look at your X form and type what is written in box #11. now look at box 12a and type that number. It is fool proof.

I've used it the past few years. It's offered at a discount on my credit union's website, and I saw it somewhere else lately - upromise maybe? I itemize. It's very easy and then you can file electronically. An hour or so and you're done.

I've used Turbo Tax many times, but only had to itemize the past two years. It is so easy! You can go to turbotax.com and start your return for free and only pay when you file. That way you can check out the software, see if your return is what you thought it would be, and if you feel comfortable filing yourself. HTH!

You can do either. If I'm correct, you can use the site to complete your entire return, and only need to pay once you submit it to the IRS. The online version is so simple, I don't think I'd take the time to go to Walmart to buy it.

I bet if you try it, you'll be hooked! Then you don't have to worry about how long your accountant takes to file, because you'll already be done!

Yep! What she said! :lmao:

I've done ours for the last few years w/taxact & it's not bad at all. Like others have said, an online program walks you through all the steps.

We used to have an acct do ours but I found minor errors a few times and realized I could probably do what he did because we don't have anything unusual, it's just pulling numbers off the various papers. The first year I did them, I compared the final forms to the acct's from the prior year to make sure the figures made sense & answers were generally in the same places since not much had changed.

ditto...I think it's called Turbo Tax Deluxe. I have used it the last 3 years and love it! It is so easy and I feel better doing it myself ! I think if you have AAA they have a discount.....

I use the Turbo Tax Deluxe online and have had no issues. It's easy-peasy. Just follow along. You can stop at any point and go back. Or skip something you don't have a 1099 or whatever paperwork for and go back and fill it in later. You can go in and try the online version at no charge.

I go through Fidelity Investments (you don't need to be a customer) to get 25% off.

I've used Turbo Tax for years and we itemize, have investments, and claim higher education tax credits. Some years we also have Schedule C income -- none this year.

Use your last couple year's returns as a guide and answer all Turbo Tax's questions. It's not very hard, but the more forms your taxes take, the longer it will take you. I was already doing 90% of the CPA's work, so it really doesn't take me much longer than when we used an accountant.

Don't worry, Turbo Tax is excellent and walks you through the entire thing. I just used Turbo Tax (long form) on Saturday and it was a piece of cake and for me that is a miracle because I am let's just say....mathmatically challenged:rolleyes:. The long form does take alittle while but, I promise turbo tax walks you through every step of the way. Good Luck!

It's crazy super easy. We had some new things this year: income from ChaCha, an inherited oil royalty (I was like :scared1: on what to do about that one until I actually used Turbo Tax...talk about easy!) and RSU where when the stock vested they sold part of it to cover taxes (and I'm like, wait..I have to claim this as being sold, but for taxes...not profit, but it was also reported on our W-2. GAAAAH! And again, easy breezy on TT). Plus all the deductions of student loan interest, house interest, yadda yadda. It's awesome :thumbsup2

I created a thread last week about discovering that a) TT is cheaper if you do it online vs. if you buy the CD b) there's even more of a discount if you are a Chase customer. Well I also saw that Bank of America customers get this discount as well. I found both discounts advertised on those banks/cc's websites.

I use Turbo Tax and love it, I filed mine on Jan 22 and am getting my refund on Jan 29! Yay, it is my Disney money!
