Do you miss the enhanced fast pass that you can get from AAA and a disney resort. This is what is pulling me to a disney poperty. We are going in June first trip for the kids 9 and 13 and first time for DH and I in over 15 years. We are thinking that enhanced fast pass looks pretty good but the price of a disney property might just cost us our food budget!

AAA also gives you free parking which helps if you are driving, not staying across the street, and don't wish to mess with the ART.

I love the enhanced FP! If your family prefers to spend most of their time riding the E-rides that offer FP, then it can be so worth it. Another current perk for staying at a Disney property is that you get EE any day it is offered while you are staying on-site.

Have you considered splitting your stay? You can stay 2 nights onsite, and the remainder of your stay at a good neighbor hotel. You should be able to get the enhanced FP for the entire stay (as long as you book at least the on-site portion plus the passes through AAA; you are able to add days to your FP) I did this last summer and it worked out great. It's a bit of a hassle transferring from your hotel, but may be worth it for you. If you do this, you should stay off-site first and use the EE that comes with your parkhopper, then transfer to the Disney property and get EE for each of those days that it is offered.
