For those who bought a real Christmas tree...

We bought a beautiful Frasier Fir from the Civitans for $40. We could have gone somewhere else and gotten one as cheap as $29, but the Civitans do it for charity.

We cut ours down Saturday from a local farm (we have 4 tree farms within 10 minutes of our house). At this farm, any tree was $35 - we got a 7 foot Balsam.

I always go artificial (I keep my trees up too long for fake, plus I don't like the mess)......

However my parents always get a live tree. They get it with the roots balled up so they can plant it after Christmas on their property. It is more expensive then a cut one, but they get to keep it.....I believe for a 6 foot Douglas Fir is was about $75 with the root ball. If she would have gotten the same tree cut, it would have been about half that.

After going to a lot where they averaged $10/foot unless they had major defects or were skinny, we went to Home Depot, got a 7-8 foot Frasier Fir that is wonderfully full for $42.

$40.00 for a tree in MA that we cut down which is always fun! 8 1/2 foot tall.

Wow, I had no idea trees were that much. Maybe not in MI! :rotfl: When I went to college in Kalamazoo they were really cheap.

We always get a cheap one at HD. Not sure what kind, but it was $15 and it looks and smells very nice. (over 6 feet tall.) Oh and it wasn't painted green. :rotfl:

If we were paying $70 a year for a tree DH would get cheap and get a good fake one. As it is the real trees are the only kind the cat leaves alone. He like to climb up instead the fake ones. DD don't touch it either. Too prickly.

OK, after reading this I remembered about a mix my DH (the real PhD) had to fire proof your tree. Here is too links to it. My DH likes the 2nd link becase it tells what all the ingredients do. I am going to start a new thread on this also so maybe more people will see it.

HOWTO: Fire Proof Your Christmas Tree

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jack Eden, a Washington garden expert, published the following formula for fire proofing a fresh cut Christmas tree. When you first bring your Christmas tree home, mix the ingredients in a five gallon painter plastic bucket. Cut the bottom one-half inch off the tree trunk and place the end of the tree in the solution. Locate the tree and bucket in either a sheltered location or in a garage. Be sure to support the tree to eliminate any risk of it toppling over.

Soak for five days total. After 2 1/2 days, refill the bucket with a second mixture of the ingredients. At the end of the five day period, bring the tree into your home and set it into a tree stand designed to hold fluids. Keep the fluid reservoir filled with more of the mixture throughout the holiday period. A typical Christmas tree will soak up about 5 gallons during the holiday period.

Fire Proof Christmas Tree Recipe
Hot Water - 2 gallons
Karo Syrup - 16 oz.
Liquid Bleach - 4 oz.
Vinegar (any type) - 2 oz.
Woolite - 2 oz.
20 Mule Team Borax - 1/2 teaspoon

Frazier Fir and it was $68. But we had a certificate we won at an auction to pick out any tree on the lot at a nursery and they would deliver/set it up. It just came today! I have to admit I went around the lot trying to find the most expensive tree and I think I got it!

$25

We get it from someone's back yard who has a small tree farm though. The big tree farms in my area are between $30-$60.

We paid $25 for a 7 foot frasier tree.... it's very full and gorgous. Got it at Home Depot, beautiful quality trees and friendly employees... we've bought ours there for the past 4 years.

I got about a 7' Douglas Fir today for FREE.

Here in Oregon, about 10 growers donated 100-200 trees each to ALL military families, deployed or not. So, my parents went with me and we loaded up a tree in their truck and they helped me set it up. :goodvibes It's perfect. A little strong smelling (nice smell, but in the last couple of years my allergies have gotten worse- I hope it doesn't mean I can't tolerate a fresh tree anymore!), but the absolute perfect shape and no holes or bare spots.

At most grocery stores, that size Douglas Fir is about $20 or so...the nobles are quite a bit more, but trees are relatively cheap here in Christmas Tree country. :teeth:

Free from the woods behind our house. And we got to go wandering to find it during a snow flurry - always better when it's snowing!

The tree farm we went to yesterday let you cut your own tree, any size, for $45. We got an 8' frasier fir.

We cut our own at a tree farm, and got 2 spruces for $35 total (one is 6 feet and one 7 feet tall).
