For those who are chicken, is Expedition Everest ok to ride?

I know this is a roller coaster ride, but is it as bad as most roller coaster rides? I know it doesn't make a loop and I know it moves backwards and that's about all I know. Space Mountain supposedly only goes 28 mph but it's a jerky ride. I'm not into fast roller coasters, either. I want to try this ride at least once, if I don't chicken out. I've been on Mission Space, but I refuse to go on RnR. Is there any hope for me with this ride?

I'd especially like to hear from those who were scared and did it.

I am scared of big roller coasters, and also can get a little queasy after riding SM or RNRC. I rode EE last week, as I will try each roller coaster once. The theming was phenomenal, the ride was smooth, not at all scary. I will say that I had to get a soft drink and sit for a while afterwards, as the backwards part of the ride (which goes really fast backwards), left me feeling not so great. I say try it once, if you don't like it, you don't have to ride it again. I am not sure I will ride EE again. On the other hand, my two boys age 10 and 6, rode EE 4 times in a little over an hour and loved it more each time.

More questions from another roller coaster wimp (i.e., Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is about my speed - because there are no "big drops")...

1. Talk to me more about the backward part. (I once road the backward Racer at Kings Island in Cinci and almost passed out - DH had to hold me in the seat.) Is it long? Down a steep hill? What do you mean by fast?

2. Are there any "big drops"?

I watched the Discovery and Travel Channel shows about EE this past week and am really intrigued, but I also know my limitations.

Thanks!

A couple of bits of advise from a reformed coasterfobe, turned coaster-nut.

For me at least, a coaster that combines it's drops with turns seems tamer than just a straight drop. I think I heard that the big drop on EE is around 80 something feet. But it does sweep to the left as it drops so that makes it a bit better.

Although it doesnt seem right, the front of a coaster is a lot tamer than the back when it comes to the intensity of the drops. The back of the train keeps the front part slower over the first part of the drop, and lessens the "I'm going to fall forward, out of the train" feeling. (of course with part of EE being backwards...)

EE is very very fast. It's smooth though, not a lot of jerking and bumping around. There is a big drop (80ft.) but it swoops to the left and back up. As a guage of speed, this thing was going as fast nearly straight uphill as it was going down.
The backwards part is really disorienting. I was terrified and not feeling well when I got off, but the more I think about it the more I think I may have done myself in a bit. I was scared in the backwards/pitch black part and closed my eyes for pretty much the rest of the ride. Had I left them open I don't think I'd have been quite so scared. It wasn't the speed that scared me, it was that pressure in the chest feeling. I won't go on it again but as so many have said I'm glad i tried it once.
There were lots of delighted children riding it over and over. I'm one of very very few who didn't love it.

I am terrified of coasters. Last year I did try the Mummy at Universal, which did go backwards. I loved it. May sound strange, but I feel safer on indoor coasters. Can anyone tell me how it compares to Mummy? The part I am most afraid of is when coasters start climbing, terrified of heights. Is there a lot of "climbing" on EE?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat with these guys...The Mummy went backwards in the dark, too...How does it compare with the dark/backwards part of the Mummy?

Not strange at all. If you can't see it (the height) you don't dwell on it. The fear of being up high doesn't detract from the thrill of the speed. And after all, it's inside, how high could it be? (besides ToT of course.)
Buy the way, my current favorite ride in the world is the Mummy :teeth: I love that intitial busrt of speed. I hope Rockin' Roller coaster is as good.

I think it depends on how the ride affects you too....people who get easily sick from roller coasters...stay chicken! I dont' usually get sick or anything, I just don't like them. We rode EE twice...it made me dizzy for a few minutes, but didn't bother my stomach (I was taking ginger pills for this reason, so consider that if you get queasy). It is extremely intense IMO. I dont' usually like roller coasters with big drops...it is a cool ride, but you feel major pressure. The backwards part is in the dark..pretty quick, but not as quick as you might want. The final drop is a huge 80 ft. drop (I think that's the height I've heard it is anyway). If you are in the back - beware of this drop! :rotfl: We rode near the middle the first time and it was okay...but being in the back on that drop is INSANE. I think you'll be fine to ride it once if it's just because you don't like them. But if the dizziness thing makes you sick, I'd be prepared for that.

I don't believe the backward part lasts longer than 15 seconds - if that long. It is at a very important and exciting part of the ride. It is fast. Remember that there is only a lap restraint bar - no shoulder harnesses, so how bad could it be? It goes down and UP a hill.

2. Are there any "big drops"?

Yes, there is an excellent big, curving drop towards the end.

Please note that I am a grade-A chicken. I don't like coasters. I only do Space Mountain once a trip because DS11 LOVES IT and wants me to come along.

E:E is a superb attraction. Rode it twice :bounce:

You can actually go to www.bigfloridacountry.com and watch a video that a rider filmed while riding EE. It has convinced me that although I'm afraid of heights it looks like alot of fun.
