For those "we eat 90 % of meals in room" people....How much do you spend on groceries?

Disney has been changing hours even just a week in advance. So make sure to keep an eye on the hours, as they may change.

One other thing I wanted to share: one of the last times we were stayed at BWV in a 1br, the full sized fridge was a bit smaller than what we've seen in other 1br's at other resorts, and even at BWV. I'm thinking it was a replacement of a a regular full sized fridge. So, just a heads-up that you could run into this issue. We didn't have any issues with it because we just don't put that much in it. But for your trip, it could be an issue.

It sounds like a great trip!!! Have fun!!!

I know they are not "normal" full size fridges but didn't know different sizes depending on resort.

I cut back on frozen waffles from 2 packs of 24 to 3 packs of 10. The will save 2 inches or so.

The breakfast sandwiches do say they can stay in a fridge for a few days,

My menu for dinners are

Sunday, pizza and then grilled cheese and fries.

Monday, chicken patties, salad , mac and cheese

Tue Hot dogs/sausage , fries, corn on cob

Wed Fish, broccoli, rice/noodles and sauce mix

Thur anything left over.

Fri move to AKL eat meals at Epcot.

Hopefully not much to move to AKL.

Sat Pizza again

Breakfast, there are eggs, precook sausage patties ( I'm getting little potato rolls, to make a sandwich), waffles, 3 boxes of cereal, breakfast sandwiches, bagels and cream cheese.

Lunches will be PB and Jelly or ham/turkey etc sandwiches/wraps. We have assorted chips, gold fish, cookies, etc.

There will also be fresh fruit and veggies at anytime.

Sun they go home, we are staying a few extra days. We'll plan to watch animals and eat anything left over. We might be living on cereal for three days.

I was reading on another thread issues with eating at CS in parks between limited menu and limited places open. I'm feeling better about this plan.

I think most all resorts have the regular full sized fridge. I think there are just a few rooms where they had to replace a fridge for some reason or another, and ended up replacing it with a smaller fridge. So, hopefully you will get one of the regular full sized fridges!!

Sounds like a good meal plan! :)

Thanks for the heads up about the queue. We don't plan on any restaurants. At most, we might do a CS, and in the past we had to split up most times, so that will be the same.
They have just updated as of today, iris now four people per ground marking, just a heads up.

We aren’t quite the same but our big trip a few years ago was breakfast in the room, large meal at TS at lunchtime, and then sandwiches and quick lunch foods at supper/dinner. We always took a midday break so this was easy to do. Our budget worked out to $35 per person per day.

I think that you gotta say $15-20 per person per day as an estimate. Walking so much per day makes everyone way more hungry. And they eat way more snacks and it’s not uncommon for all of us to drink way more beverages too.

If it were me - I’d probably figure out how to do a store run halfwayish through. Buy 2/3 to 3/4 of what you intended. You won’t run the risk of running out of fridge/freezer space and will be able to take a better inventory of what you have left/need more of.

probably a dumb question, but have you confirmed what your people eat for breakfast? If they’re mostly cereal eaters, you could be taking up too much space on breakfast food.

Yes. The list has gone back and forth a few times.

I expect to do a small reorder for mostly milk , juice, water and a couple items when we move from BLT to AKL. I'm hoping to be almost out cold items when we switch resorts. Less time needed to pack up food.

We just got back from OKW with a group of 15. 2 - 2 bedrooms. We cooked all of our meals in room or at the pool (charcoal). 12 nights, spent about $800, but we like to eat and drink.

Yes, looking at Walmart. Funny, paying disney $3.50 (or whatever) for a bottle of water is ok, but hey spending $400 for week of food for ten feels crazy. Maybe it would seem different if I went to three stores and only spent $130 at each one.
look at the prices on the menus for that many people, each meal times 3 days times days your staying, that 300 bucks will seem like a pittance. we have breakfast in room, and dinner, lunch is whatever, at the park we snack and stay hydrated. I buy water at publix , fill our bottles before heading to park.

We spent $115 on our instacart order for milk, meatballs, eggs, fruit, butter, sausage, frozen vegetables, etc. we brought (since we drove) drygoods with us (cereal, ketchup, spaghetti and sauce, etc). Also froze bacon and hotdogs and used them as ice blocks for the drive.
as a family of 5, we drop over $100 on any sit down meal and close to that on counter service. Any meal in the room is a cost saver. We’re coming back from 7 nights and did bkft in the room and all but two dinners. sometimes we’ll eat a light meal in the room and supplement with park favorites. Saving on the meals mean we spurge on snacks (Mickey bar a day...)

Sad and shocking to think for us a Mickey bar a day would add up to $400. I think they are between $5.50 -$6.50 each????

I think just feeding the number of people is what is throwing me. When they all come over for a dinner , we spend a lot and the fridge is stuffed and that's just one or two meals. Planning 3 meals a day, stuff the kids will eat, quick to cook, slightly nutritious and not have tons of food left over. They are coming Sunday to Sunday. We will be there Saturday to the Tuesday after they leave. It will be interesting to see what , if any, is left for us to eat.

I've been somewhat following this thread as in the past we have hosted three large family gatherings in a 3 BRGV at OKW. I remember all the menu planning, finding out if we have a picky eater (or two) etc. You are so precise on your planning which is admirable!

Well, the joke is on me! :rolleyes1

We went from DH and I, son and DIL in a 2 BR Lock Off for almost two weeks to adding on two other studios - one with two adults and one with three adults. So our small and manageable group has grown LOL! We're all staying at OKW. We'll have at least two and possibly four cars so grocery runs are easy.

I don't believe I will do anything other than one or two "big" breakfasts and perhaps a "make your own" sandwich lunch or dinner if needed. Drinks, snacks and sandwich fixings will always be available for anyone that drops by.

I think for the most part, DH and I will spend a couple days at MK and EPCOT and more time at the villa/pool and the rest of the gang will be out at the parks and therefore eating there. We are not there to feed everyone and they don't expect it, though there is fun in getting together early on to do some loose planning.

Plan on!! :teacher:

When we do large gatherings, everyone is responsible for their own expenses, airfare, tickets, meals, etc. We just are helping with the hotel part.

We usually spend just under $200/week for 2 adults, but that includes some prepared meals and a lot of meal-ready items(think onions already chopped), plus a bottle of wine and some seltzers. We could easily do it on $150 if we tried, and that's about what we'd spend at home.

We are doing a trip in a month from now. DH, DD, DIL and 6 grandkids ages 4, 5, 5,8, 11, 16 and myself. So ten people in two rooms. No TS. One day we will eat counter service in Epcot. (more space to spread out.)
Plans are ....

breakfast in room, cereal, waffles, breakfast sandwich, bagels, juice, milk, fruit

Lunch in park, either ham/turkey/ cheese or PB&J sandwiches, cookies, chips/gold fish , water , juice box

Dinner in room, chicken nuggets, hot dogs/sausage, mac & cheese, frozen fish, salad, veggies , etc

No steak, lobster or cavier.

Adding it all up, pushing $400. actually it's more, but not counting paper plates, cups, etc and laundry detergent. , I know there are real plates in the 2 bedroom, but that's more work too. We will use some of them but there wouldn't be enough for all of us anyway.

Looking at list , it seems like ton of food. Anyone else get shocked at shopping list for disney?

But then again, I've never planned on feeding 10 people for days on end.
I usually figure out based on budget per person. $3-4 per person/meal is a decent budget. With kids and light meals maybe $2. It adds up. We used to do meals for kids that were under $1 each but that was 12 years ago. I feel super happy if I can slip in a $1-2 meal.

I could not fathom that much cooking. It just does not seem like a vacation for you.
We don’t cook that much in five years.... at home.

We are eating at home tonight for the first time since Christmas. We are heading to Publix soon to get a precooked, ready to eat chicken. Does that even count??

Eating out with a 4, 5 and 5 year old is even less fun.
