For those that use flat irons, what do you use to protect your hair?

My DD's use flat irons. I went to the get the normal "protectant" that they use yesterday. The cost has gone up almost 50%. :scared1: I can't even remember the name of it because they normally buy it - not me - I just happened to be near the store they get it at & recognized the bottle.

What does everyone use?

I use CHI Silk Infusion. I wait for it to go on sale and buy a bottle or two. I only use a very small amount each time so a bottle lasts me forever.

I used the Beyond the Zone stuff at Sally's, but I only flat iron once in a blue moon.

When my hairdresser flat irons my hair, she doesn't use anything. This is a very, very, high-end, pricey salon (that I can no longer afford, but that's another story). I used to use a spray, can't remember the name, but now I'm not using anything and there is no damage to my hair. I ask everytime for her to look my hair over as well...and no damage. And I flat iron every time I wash/dry my hair. Not sure how much it's necessary or is it another reason to push a product? :confused3

I use the John Freida straigthening spray. It seems to help with the flyaways.

When I asked her opinion, my hairdresser just said to use whatever hairspray you have on hand. Just don't spray too much.

Thanks. Interesting that some hairdressers don't use anything or don't even recommend anything.

I don't want them to fry their hair, but if nothing is necessary it sure would save some bucks on the long run.

Speaking of flat irons...do you guys recommend any under $50? I know Chi's etc are awesome but not in the budget anytime soon.

I have thick wavy hair that I love flat ironed. :(

As for product...could you use any silcone based product, like frizz ease?

I use Revlon's Wet-to-dry iron. I can't compare it with the Chi because I don't have any experience with it, but it leaves my hair silky smoooth.

As for product I use freeze Ease wind-down cream. It does wonders with the frizzies.

I don't like serums for the hair. I never use them

yes, this one http://www.amazon.com/Remington-Straight-Wide-Plate-Straightening/dp/B00067YSLO

It is the most wonderful straightner. I have used if for 2+ years with wonderful results. My friends are always stealing it, and a few of them have gotten their own. I have also used a Chi many times, and while nothing an get results exactly like the Chi, this is very close. I have long thick hair, and get absolutely amazing results with this. I recommend it to everyone!

My DD, and I use Chi iron guard. We use Hemp straightening gel, before drying and the iron guard immediately before using the iron.

PP-try Ebay for the Chi irons. I bought one for around $75-80, incl. shipping.

I use Bumble and Bumble's styling spray. I don't flat iron much but when I do I make sure I use something.

I buy FX Special Effects flat iron spray: http://www.walgreens.com/store/prod...frgl_603840&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=sku1789695

My daughter has kinky curly hair. It's the kind of kinky curly that starts to dry as soon as she comes out of the shower, and we never found anything to manage it until she started using a flat iron on it. This spray really softens her hair and makes it smooth and shiny. Only a little more than $5 a bottle at Walmart!

Somebody here on the DIS recommended this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009XH6SC. It's an Andis. I didn't want to spend Chi prices until I was sure she was going to actually use it, so I wanted something inexpensive for her to try. Well, now I'm not even going to buy her a Chi! This flat iron is great. We even found the exact same one at Walmart for around $17 -- she bought that one because it was 1 1/2" as opposed to the one I got her, which was a 1".

Also if you have a Big Lots, check around there and see what they've got. My stylist found a Jeri Redding straightener for around $20. And a long while back I found a Wigo Jade flat iron for the same price. That was a killer flat iron, but my dog chewed the cord. I just looked online for it and I see that it's being sold between $70 and $100 at most retailers. Ebay has some good prices on it at around $25.

Me too! I love it! Though sometimes, I find the ends of my hair dries out a little bit..but that could be from something else too. I use a deep conditioning treatment three times a week on my hair now, and could really get away with not using anything in my hair while flat ironing, but I use the Chi Silk Infusion to help tame my hair!

My girls use the CHI Iron Guard when they rememebr. Just a little bit though, cause like the Silk infusion, it can make your hiar greasy if you use too much.

I shampoo & condition everyday then I usually use Profressional silkworks. Then I use my flat iron & hair spray my favorite is "freeze it"
