We have stayed in Emerald Island 5 times since 2008 and Terra Verde twice, EI is a great location and the space works for my large family. We've noticed an issue lately that I'm not sure if it is an "us" problem or a neighborhood problem. The houses we've been staying in lately seem very worn. Handles missing, blinds broken, paint chipped, doors off hinges...etc. Has the neighborhood aged to this point as a whole, or are we getting priced out of the homes that actually have done a good job of upkeep? I'll admit that there are houses that are much more expensive than what we've rented, but all of them have beautiful pictures, even the "worn" ones that we've rented. We like the full-size pool otherwise we would have stayed at one of the newer resorts...but it only had little drop pools.

TIA

Rental homes are ridden hard -- and if the owner doesn't invest in upgrades and maintenance things can go from nice to rough pretty quickly.

I have not been to Emerald Isle, but I live in Florida and homes and communities built 15 years ago are entering the time when a lot of larger renovations are going to be needed. Everything from updated bathrooms to kitchens, etc.

The style of homes built and designed 20 years ago also going to feel more "dated" than modern stuff.

If you like the location, you just have to scour the most recent reviews and photos for any signs of issues.

With thousands of rental homes out there, it can be a challenge to find the best fit sometimes.
