I would want any conversion to be private, is that even possible?

I don't see why not. Talk to the priest about your wishes. I can't see him saying you cannot convert without a full church.

This has all been very interesting and enlightening.

I never thought of droppping out once you started the RCIA classes. I am thinking that if I start the process, I will finish it since it is not a spur of the moment decision.

I don't think I could convert from Christianity to another religion all together. It always confused me how growing up, my minister was married to a Jewish woman. It has to be hard enough for the non church leaders to have 2 relgions in the house let alone the above situation. Sometime she attended church, but she never converted. Their kids were raised Christion, but they celebrated both Christmas and Hanukkha (sp).
