For those renting national ...January

My rate has dropped several times this week. We always rent a car and having been using National exclusively for the past 6 trips (past year). My rate is 124.64 for 8 days (before taxes and fees) total is 168.95 (I used the vacation club coupon/$15 and vacation club discount/10%). (EA-January 30-Feb. 6) I just checked again and the rate dropped AGAIN, though only a couple of dollars more, but gotta love the trend. Now only if the rate would be good for my May, July, and October trips, I would book them too.

I'm seeing the same drop in prices. What started out as a 9-day $219 all inclusive rental is now a 9-day $179 rental. I have been using the same 10% contract ID and the $15 off weekly rental coupon. DO NOT use the EWEB or WWEB discount codes as you WILL be quoted higher rental rates. Especially if you use the EWEB code for a weekly rental.....great rates on the weekend, horrendous rates during the week.

The shuttle is very painless for Hertz. You just walk outside and there is two locations and you no sooner sit down and the shuttle pulls out. I am sure you could handle this.

I am sorry but I don't see how going off-site(Hertz) is easier than walking across the street(National) at MCO and picking any car you want(EA) and driving off.
Then on the return you have to drive off-site and shuttle back. Doesn't seem easier to me than getting out of your car at MCO.

Nick@ VB+OKW, have you tried Hertz? I have done National and Hertz and found Hertz to be very easy. Also didn't take any more time than going to National.

On the return I do curbside check in and return the car. Very easy.

Yes I have tried Hertz about 4 years ago before I found out how easy National EA is. Why add another shuttle-stop on both ends of car rental if you don't have to.

Then we need to agree to disagree. I did not like my National experiences. Since it only takes a few minutes more I will stay with Hertz.

I don't think that either Hertz or National is going to go out of business at MCO.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm flying into Tampa and renting National there for Jan WDW trip, my quote went down $49 :D

I also checked my Feb ressie (MCO) and it went down $50!

re check your rates for january....

our rate for january 14 -21 has gone from 170$ to begin with to 138$ two days ago to .....124$ today....EA using Entertainment coupon and magic DC code

it always pays to check,

did this recheck due to a post somewhere about someone getting 7$ a day for an economy at payless through a travel agent....which might have meant the supply is greater than the demand...

Thanks for posting this. I saved another $31.57 on our rental from Jan 23rd through the 29th.

Just looking for a little bit of reassurance.

I am picking up and dropping off at Orlando Airport, a mid-size car with Budget Car Rental. It is a Saturday afternoon to Saturday morning (Jan 24 - Jan 31) rental.

I was quoted the price of $137.

That is with the Entertainment book and includes all taxes and all surcharges. I figure that works out to about $19.57 a day and the pickup is IN the airport.

Should I book this right now or have others seen better deals floating around? Thanks for any info.

Book it as fast as you can..........if you happen to find a cheaper rate you can always cancel that one. At the price you were quoted($137) I doubt it very much you will find a better one for a 7 day rental.::yes::

If you are 100% that $137 includes all taxes and fees then book it. Less then $20 a day for a rental car is a good deal.

Thanks for the feedback and reassurance.

Just booked with Budget Car Rental online using my Entertainment Book code that gives 20% off for this rate on a mid-size car (Sonata, Grand Am, etc.) :

Base Rate: 101.59 USD for 7 days
Surcharge Summary: 27.74 USD
Taxes: 8.41 USD
Percent Discount: 20.0 %
Your Estimated Total Cost: 137.74 USD

That is about $19.68 a day, including everything (tax, surcharges, discounts). So folks might want to use this as a baseline to compare to other car rental places. Also, Budget is located onsite at the airport...

Yes, budget is onsite, however, I like walking from baggage, down one flight, to the garage and selecting my own car and out I go. My rental, in Tampa, late Jan for one week is 115.00 for Emerald Aisle service (intermediate car, hopefully one that is larger will be there) that includes all taxes and fees. Same week in Orlando would be 128.27 including all taxes and fees.

For National, intermediate size car, I'm getting the following quote that is higher than Budget: $148.48 including all taxes and fees, minus the discount book coupon.

Time & Distance 1 Week @ 129.00 129.00
Base Rate _____
129.00
Less Discounts:
Entertainment 2004 Book -20.00

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread! I was booked with Alamo for $168 for an intermediate for a week in january and I just checked back with National and was able to get the same for $123!

So thanks for the heads up!!

I am using the DC discount, that is why it is less than yours.
If I used the AARP discount code and the BJs coupon then it would be 144.61 total for the week in Orlando.
Budget is a nice company, I have used them in the past and except for the hard sell for insurance, they were fine with very nice cars. It was years ago that I used them, so, I don't know what their attitude on insurance upsells are now.
You got a great rate, go with it. :)

Sounds like everyone is getting a great deal on rental car! I am going with National, renting from Jan 1-6 from MCO, compact for $137, is this good? I don't have no coupon.

http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html#national

If I were you, I would try checking out the info on MouseSavers (link above). You can join Emerald Club for free, which would give you Emerald Aisle service (bypass the counter) and an intermediate size car. There are also some codes and coupons you may be able to use to save some money.

Using my Emerald Club number I got 130.19 using no codes at all. 123.70 using the Carlson Wagonlit code from Mary's site (above).

OK...I called National again. The quote I got changed to 118.48. Not bad. They are having a promo. :teeth: I am very happy! No code, no coupon! Yiiipppeee. Thanks to this thread! I would have not called National if I didn't see this thread.
