For those potty training at Disney....

are you bringing your child's "potty chair" with you on vacation?
Or if your trip is over, what did you do if you were in the midst of training when your trip started? Did you leave your potty home and hope for the best?

Our DS has been in underwear since August 11 and we go on our trip on Sept. 6. He has only sat on his own little potty, not the big potty. I thought about waiting until after the trip but the "diaper fairy" came on his 4th birthday to take his diapers away and we couldn't look back. It has been a very long year to get to this point (his twin sister has been trained since 2.5 years).

Now I'm not sure what to do when we get to Disney as I don't want to ship or pack his big potty chair yet I don't want to do anything that could set his potty training back (this has been a very long road for us). He has not sat on a big potty yet. I could pack a little potty seat that goes on the big potty. I also have a fold up seat but that is not very sturdy.

Our DS has been extremely resistant to potty training and wearing underwear so now that he has agreed and is progressing I want to keep that going.

Thanks!

DD is 3 and just starting to train now. I bought a portable seat t put on the big potty. I never used a small potty for any of my kids, just seats that go on the regular toilet, so I'm not sure what your ds would do.

Has he went potty on anyone else's potty since being trained?

IMO start him going on the big potty now. Without a seat. Get these seat covers and use them while in Disney (and anywhere else your ds needs to do potty in public!) Dd did wonderfully w/ the big potty (she's been p.t.'d for a while now, but when we'd go out to Target, grocery store etc she always used the big potty - I didn't want her to have any issues with potty and "needing" the little seat, kwim?) I told her that we had to get used to the big potty because Mickey doesn't have little potties, just the big potty at his house.

She does still use the little seat in the middle of the nite, but that's just because she's so sleepy when she goes that she has once fallen into the bowl (LOL @ it now but it was frightening when it was happening, hahaha!!)

Remember to bring post-it notes to put over the automatic sensor when he's using the toilet at Disney. That thing flushed right after DD got on once and scared the wits out of her!

Since he is 4 I would start having him go on the big potty at home now. Tell him that he is getting so big that it's time to move onto the big kid potty. Once my kids were trained it didn't really matter to them where they went. Hopefully the transition will be just as easy for you. If you don't make a big deal of it, he may not even think twice about it.

Does he go to school at all? If he does or will be starting shortly, it is a good idea to get him used to the bigger potty because most likely they won't have a potty chair there. All 4k's I know of just use a regular toilet or a child size regular toilet, but no potty chairs.

Thanks for the sugs. I will try to get him on the big potty before we go and will bring some post its. I know it would terrify him if the potty went off while he was still on it. I think telling him Mickey's house only has big potties will ease the transition (as our saying no big kids wear diapers at Disney has helped in the transition to underwear).

So far, we have limited our time out since we started training, but when we do go out, I actually have a third potty that I keep in my minivan and he can go in there if he needs to (but so far he hasn't had success there).

He has not gone on anyone else's potty and so far only goes on his little potty. It would make my life (and his) easier if I could get him adjusted now to another potty. We have one toilet in our house that is a little shorter/smaller than the others so that might be easier to start with.

Thanks.

Oh wow... that was a good question! We're in the same boat, (except our other twin is not interested AT ALL in going on the potty, so I'm totally jealous that you're "half" done! :worship:) I think for the hotel I'll bring the potty ring to go on top of the toilet. When DH comes home in a month or so, I'm going to have him teach him how to go standing up, so that should help. Right now, we've only had to go twice in public, and once I just held him up with one arm under his arms, and "aimed" him with my other hand so he could go w/out sitting, and somehow that worked! The other time I had him sit backwards on the big toilet, which is what we'll occasionally do at home. I try to teach him to only put his hands on his knees while I put him on there to avoid touching the yucky seat!

I love playing up the disney angle. maybe have Mickey send him a card or something in the mail with a countdown chart in it and put some stickers or something in the card... let it tell him that if he uses all the stickers before his trip, Mickey will leave a special surprise in his room the first day there. ... if he goes nearly a month getting used to the big potty then hopefully by the time you are there, he won't really care either way.

Good Luck!

I went through the same thing back in January. Thanks God the girl just finished so I get to go to Disney with NO DIAPERS for the first time in 4 years!

I brought one of the folding seats with me. They are thin and fit right on the bottom of the diaper bag. He never did use it though. At AK and HS they have tiny potties in the baby center too which helped a lot.

This might sound nuts but what about making some toilet seat covers for the big potties? Like getting some covers and drawing some Mickey heads on them? It might get him interested in the big potty. :confused3
