For those of you who've seen the new Harry Potter movie

I do question
the thought process of anyone taking a preschooler or
children who have not heard the stories and under 8.

My 5 DD has not stopped talking about the movie since Friday. She keeps saying "Its my favoirte movie" "when will it be on video" "Guess which HP movie is my favorite" "can we go see it again" I must here about the movie 25X a day.

We took my six year old cousin this week and he was nuts about it. He's in first grade this year. He's asked us like 10 times to take him to see it again. I think the PG rating was right on.

My youngest DS is 6 and he absolutely loved the movie. He has 3 older brothers, so he isn't really afraid of anything! ;) :teeth:

Great replies, thanks all! We're actually taking DS and 5 of his friends to see it (again, in our case) for DS's bday party on Friday. I did, however, contact each parent ahead of time to let them know what the movie was about so they could judge for themselves as to whether or not it was appropriate for their child. We did enjoy it, I just squirmed over the small children nearby who were obviously hysterically scared (and their parents who didn't seem to care).
On to book three's movie (in two years)!

Have fun questioning my thought process! I took my 6yo DD and my 4yo niece. Both of them loved it and were not scared at all. They can't wait to see it again!

I took my almost-4 year old (along with my 7 year old) to see the movie, and I was concerned midway through that he might be frightened by some of the rather graphic scenes. But he was a trooper, and amused the entire movie theatre audience by yelling, "take THAT snake!" when Harry and the Snake are fighting.

Truth be told, after the movie was over, I worried more about my 7-year old than the little one. He is the more sensitive of the two, but he seemed to do just fine with it.

I guess it all depends on the kid.

I took my goddaughter who is 9 and not a timid kid in general, and there were parts of it (the spider part and the big snake part) that frightened her. I think it's a bit intense for younger kids in general, but I think you have to know your kid.

I don't know that I would take anyone under about 7 to the movie, but I don't have any kids yet to have to judge ;)

I do have to admit *I* was scared during the spider scene ;) I'm arachnaphobic (sp?) so got up and left and stood in the hall to *listen* to it rather than watching so I wouldn't have nightmares. I guess I'm ashamed that several 5 year olds did better in that scene than I did! LOL!

Anyway -- I think PG was a fine rating for it. My only complaint was our theater had it REALLY LOUD, so I was temporarily "deaf" both after the mandrakes and the Basilisk scene!
