For those of you who've made your own shadow boxes, what did you use to stick your medal onto the frame? Mine kit came with a small strip of Velcro which I wasn't sure whether I wanted to put onto the medal. I know I'm probably not going to take it out but wondered if there was another way to mount the medal without sticking something to it.

TIA :)

I'll tell you that the commercial ones hang the medal from behind. It really does not need to be fixed.... my two boxes clang when being moved.

You thread the excess lanyard ribbon between a background mat and the back of the frame. Not sure that I am saying this clearly....

I bought some foam board and had it cut to the same size as the shadowbox. I used standard staples from the back to secure the medals, the foam was thick enough that they didn't poke through. I did get some flat-topped push pin things (can't remember the actual name) that I used to keep the medals where I would like them and put them just above the medals through the ribbons.

Here is how one of them came out (the white circles are the pin things):

Coach - Makes sense! The piece that came with the frame has velcro on it and isn't that thick. I'll probably end up replacing it with a piece of foam board or something thicker so I can cut slits in it and slide the lanyard part through.

Frank - I have the same push pins at work. I borrow a few to practice with. Thanks for the idea! I like your layout and now I'm thinking I should get another shadow box so I can hang up some more of my medals.
