Does anyone actually own (even smaller contracts) at 3 or more resorts??

I am figuring that when they come out with new DVC's and I really like them I would want to do a small add-on. I figured owning at 2 resorts would be no problem because of the banking/borrowing.

For example
220 at SSR
50 at mystery resort

use 220 in 05
bank 50 from 05 to 06 and borrow 07's to have 150 to stay in 05
bank 220 in 06 to 07 and be able to stay longer and whatnot

Now when we get to doing that with 3 different resorts it starts to get hard. I would end up losing points I think because there is no way I think I could use them all.

Is this basically for those that vacation 2 or more weeks a year? And you know that old saying, buy where you want to stay. What if you really like some of the newer ones in the future?

How do you all handle things like this??

Hi, we have four contracts at three resorts. We first bought at bcv, with the 150 intro points. Just about immediately we added on 70 points at wlv. At the time, we were studio stayers, and we thought that would be the right amount for either a long weekend or a five-day weekday week a year at wlv. We couldn't resist an incentive later, and added on 100 points at ssr. We couldn't resist another incentive later, and added on 120 points at ssr. That last one really had me going. Basically, we wouldn't get the incentive if we bought at wlv. I really thought hard about getting 100 more wlv points instead of 120 ssr points, which would have been about the same financially. But ultimately, we went for the extra 20 points for the extra years.

It hasn't been any sort of problem for us. We have enough bcv points to stay there most years. We plan to bank and borrow wlv points to make a stay there every other year. For the SSR points, we can book at 11 months, then switch at 7. If we end up stuck in ssr that will be how it is that year. So, at 11 months we might book the weekdays at wlv and the weekend at SSR, then switch the weekend to WLV at 7 months. If it doesn't work out, no biggee.

The way I think about it is, we have 140 wlv points every other year, 300 bcv points every other year, and 220 ssr points every year. So, year A 140 wlv plus 220 SSR, year B 300 BCV and 220 SSR. Actually, it has never really worked out that way and we haven't had a problem with it, but I expect eventually we'll "catch up" with that.

Lose points... nah... you could just rent the "excess" or become a little more thrifty in your use of the points. Increase your accommodation size... stay longer... stay over the weekends.... take more trips.... or book additional rooms to take friends/family with you.... or transfer them to me... :teeth: :rotfl:

I own at all 7 resorts. Started with OKW, and kept adding on, as they usually had a pretty good incentive when a new resort came online. I haven't had any problem keeping track of things, and have never lost a point.
My situation is: I'm retired, have lots of free time, and take 2 or 3 trips a year of 3 to 6 weeks each, and I like to change resorts on a trip - maybe take a weekend to go to the beach or visit relatives, then come back to a different resort. And perhaps throwing in a trip to VB or HH on the way down or back. Owning at each resort lets me book everything at the same time, and I can get those had to get ressies, like New Year's Eve at a BWV standard view room, or BCV at Food and Wine.

Does DVC offer incentives to current members to purchase points at new Resorts as the resorts are started to be built?? Once you are a member, can you buy direct from DVC at already sold out resorts? If yes in either case, can you purchase less than 150 points (ie DVC requires an initial purchase of 150 points).

If you own points at two DVC resorts, can you use the points at the non-home resort to book a reservation at 11 months. Example: say you have 150 SSR points and 90 VWL points and want to book a 240 point VWL vacation. Can you book all 240 points 11 months out??

We are also considering buying into SSR as our initial purchase in DVC. The price is great and the added lenght is great. We have three little kids, so at this point we like VWL (just stayed there last week on rented points), but see moving toward other resorts down the road. Especially if something at Contemporary happens down the road. We are affraid to wait as prices, as always will go up. We have gone 3 times in the last 4 years so I know we will be going again soon.

DVD has been offering special incentives at SSR since the sales began there. The most recent offer is quite attractive. Generally the best time to buy a resort is when sales first start.

Yes DVC sells points at the sold out resorts. Current price is $92 per point, no closing costs. Minimum purchase is 25 points if cash and 50 points if financed for current members. 150 points for new members.

Only home resort points can be used for reservations over 7 months out. You cannot combine points from different resorts and use all of them at one of the resorts until within 7 months of the check-out date.

John - You're living my dream! Assume one of those 6 weeks trips is to escape the midwest winter, LOL.

Best wishes -

We have points at three resorts - the trick to me is to keep all contracts in same use year to keep things as simple as possible - we tend to travel 2 times per year and sometimes more so we have no problem using our points - sometimes we do not get to stay at one resort for the full trip length since some ressies are at 11 mos and some at 7 mos but that is ok since we do not mind moving around.

We have 663 points across 5 contracts - so far we have only blown it on 2 points we could not use :confused3

cheers

If you keep the same resort with the same UY, it's easier to handle. I'm going to be selling one of my BWV contracts and buying/adding on to match UYs. I own at the BWV and BCV. I like that they have different UYs since I use them for different times of the year: BWV Food & Wine & Holidays, BCV Spring/Summer.
