For everyone who has seen the most recent production of 'A Little Night Music'... can you post a review? DH and I want to see another show soon and I'm torn between that and seeing 'Billy Elliot' again.

I am in Dallas, so we get all of the traveling tours, but I love Broadway so much! My favorites are:

Wicked
RENT
Spamalot
The Producers
The Lion King (saw this on Broadway, original cast)

In terms of old movie musicals, I am apparently in the minority who adore Hello Dolly, but I also love Singing in the Rain.

Hated Miss Saigon, Aida, and had a lesser dislike for Titanic, a version of Grease that I saw and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.

I'm back from NYC. I saw In the Heights, A Little Night Music, and Next to Normal. Reviews below...

A Little Night Music: First act is a little slow but the second act more than makes up for it. Seeing / hearing Bernadette perform Send in the Clowns is worth the price of admission in itself. Elaine S. is hilarious. Her comic timing is superb. The overall cast is great and have amazing voices.

In the Heights: Fun show. It was great to see once but doubt I'll be running back to see it again. I loved the song Breathe.

Next to Normal: This was my second time seeing the show...which has also quickly become my favorite show. The new cast is wonderful. Marin Mazzie did a phenomenal job as Diana and the chemistry between her and Jason (her husband in the show and real life) is unreal. I definitely have a little crush on Kyle Dean Massey.

Glad you enjoyed In the Heights. I'm so excited because Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator/composer of INH) is coming to my university for Latino Heritage Month. Guess who gets to show him around?

I saw four shows when I was in NY in August -

Mary Poppins
Promises, Promises (Kristen Chenoweth and Sean Hayes)
The Addams Family (Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth)
Chicago (John O'Hurley)

My favorite (which surprised me!) was The Addams Family. The reviews have all been really bad, and the story is....strange. But, I think I expected that because it was The Addams Family. And Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth were great, but I'm a huge fan of Kevin Chamberlin (Horton, from Seussical) and he played Fester Addams. I bought the soundtrack, and have enjoyed listening to it.

Promises, Promises was great, it has some nice music. It moved a little slow for me, but I liked it. Of course anything with Kristen Chenoweth...

For Mary Poppins, I liked the music better than seeing the show. I could have just bought the soundtrack, and been happy.

And the only good thing about Chicago was John O'Hurley. Just sayin'.

Beauty and the Beast and Seussical the Musical are coming to Dallas this year, and I am SUPER EXCITED! I haven't seen either of these (although I think I have the Seussical soundtrack memorized) and I am glad that they are touring.

I've always loved Broadway - especially musicals. These days I am fortunate to travel to NYC pretty often to visit my daughter.

One of our favorite things is going to a Broadway Show. I love a lot of them but my all time favorite has to be
Les Mis
with Wicked and Lion King close behind.

One other performance that really stands out to me wasn't really a play but it didn't matter. I saw Chita Rivera on Broadway with my daughter a few years ago. It was a once in a lifetime thrill. She was incredible and held her own on stage - singing and dancing with people 1/3 her age.

I saw both 2 weeks ago, and here are my feelings. I know you already saw Billy, but I figure knowing my view of it might give better insight to my Night Music review.

A Little Night Music- Good music, excellent cast/ entire ensemble. Witty lyrics that you need to listen for. Intelligent, funny story with a happy ending. Slightly farce. Elaine Stritch is very funny, but drags all her moments and lines out. Bernadette resorts to her "thing", but I love her "thing" and thought it worked well within the confines of the character. Send in the Clowns is heartstopping. I loved it.
Cons- Not much as far as set. Not a big "production". Most songs not really catchy, (but work well within the story).

Billy Elliot- HUGE production, impressive. The kids that play Billy are the most talented young dancers you may ever see. A wide variety of dancing and music. Lots of "Wow" factor. A few catchy songs. Some acting is over the top or obviously played to the audience. Our Billy wasn't a great singer. Doesn't require as much thought as "Night Music", is more obvious. Amazing sets, no need to use your imagination. Jaw-dropping dance sequences.

Kaleigh - Thanks so much for the reviews!! I have to agree with everything you said about Billy Elliot...I LOVED the show. We saw Trent Kowalik as Billy and he was AMAZING. Everything about him was perfect for the role, including his voice. I'm not sure if you ever got to see a TV special that was made about the making of Billy Elliot and how they chose the boys, but Trent was one of the original ones chosen for the Broadway production.

I think we'll see A Little Night Music when we go to NYC. I've loved the music for awhile and REALLY wanted to see it with Angela Lansbury but just didn't get there before she left. :-( Still, I'm sure Bernadette and Stritch make the show incredible and I'd kick myself for missing it twice. LOL
