For those of you who find the food at Disney "just ok," I would love to know if there was one meal that actually did impress you!

Jiko.

I do have fun going to all the restaurants but I try not to think about it too deeply. It disturbs me that a great deal of the food costs more than James Beard award-winning eateries in New Orleans

Sometimes I think I must not have very sophisticated taste buds..lol I very rarely have an issue with food I get and not just in WDW. I mean sometimes I think couldn't been better but it served its purpose while I was hungry.. I do enjoy food but I guess I don't expect it to be an "Experience" I eat b/c Im hungry or my body needs it.

Now with that said I didn't care for H&V not much of a variety for a buffet, CP everyone raves about it, but the food was luke warm and not being replenished the night we went and it was only 7 pm.

I normally pick my restaurants for the ambiance or theme. The food is just the extra perk..lol Places like San Angel, Sci Fi, Ohana, Mama Melrose, CR, BOG. We do go back to Via Napoli for the pizza and LTT for the freedom pasta and ooey gooey toffee cake but other than that Im at WDW for everything else! and the cupcakes! lol

I guess it might make a difference since we really don't do much of the signatures..

PPs beat me to it, but definitely Artist Point & Jiko! They were both AMAZING!! For an in-park treat, I also thoroughly enjoyed Hollywood Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios.

Another vote for Jiko!

It's become our must-do, preferably a the beginning of the trip meal.

I was most impressed with Shula's Steakhouse. Top notch wait staff and food.

We generally enjoy Disney food, but we have found better stuff around the country through culinary tourism. With two notable exceptions, V&A's and Jiko. I have been to V&A's twice and both times it was stellar and clearly deserving of it's AAA 5-Diamond rating. Jiko is probably my favorite restaurant, period. I have eaten here 8 times and each one has been a gastronomic delight. Can't wait to go again in December.

V&A's was a great meal, and I remember liking Cali Grill a lot at a visit ~8 yrs ago (we were somewhat disappointed at more recent visits). I actually liked Sanaa a lot too when we went a few years ago. I'd love to try Jiko too.

  • Victoria & Albert's
  • bluezoo many, many times
  • Il Mulino, all but one time
  • Shula's, though I am not a "steak guy". But this place is a "real world steakhouse" instead of a "Disney steakhouse".
  • California Grill, most of the time
  • Citricos most of the time
  • Jiko
  • Via Napoli pizza
*Flying Fish is close to making this list, but bluezoo is so much better that I just don't go to FF much any more.

That's about it. The rest of the places that I visit I enjoy because I am at WDW and they are fun, convenient and sufficient. Usually that is enough to hold me over. But I generally live by the rule that at least every other day on vacation, I have to have a legitimately nice meal. The places listed above get the job done.

anyone NOT impressed with the food at Disney... come eat dinner at my house!!! LOL

you opinion will change...

and ANY food NOT cooked by me is going to taste wonderful!!!

Ohana breakfast was great, just about every part of it and as a plus it's actually a character meal. I was very disappointed by all of the quick service restaurants though. The best of the quick service I thought was earl of sandwich, which isn't actually even a disney restaurant. I got food poisoning from cheesecake I ate at the quick service restaurant overlooking the small world ride, I can't remember what it the restaurant was called. I was puking all night, thank goodness that happened at the end and not the beginning of our trip.

I have always defended Disney food, having enjoyed meals on many trips. Last trip however I used the dining plan and found that the quality of the food was not as good.
I found the food at Cape May over cooked and unnecessarily "rich" There was not a good selection either. The Flame Tree food was cold. Grand Floridian Cafe breakfast was too little food, but I enjoyed the setting.
I enjoyed Captain Cook's and Paradiso 37. Boma was wonderful as always, breakfast and dinner! LOL A dinner meal at Pop Century's cafe were very delicious, unfortunately I carried it back to my room and it was cool by the time I ate it, I really enjoyed it though!
I cancelled two buffets at the end of my vacation due to upset stomach and had QS meals instead.
The worst meal I ever remember having at Disney was Jiko, over rated IMHO and ridiculously overpriced.

Sanaa
California Grill
Tokyo Dining
Both stand out for me, expecially the former.
We have not done any Signature yet though.

We feel that the Signature restaurants are of very high quality. As for non Signature restaurants, they can be hit or miss. Unfortunately, all the food prices at WDW are ridiculous. One must just grin and bear it.

35+ stays at WDW since '99. I've watched as the quality of food, at the more common spots, diminish. There is a sameness about it all now.
But, if you head to the high end meals? Much better. My favorite? Artist Point!! OMG..it is wonderful. Also love Shula's. Really enjoy Flying Fish simply because my dh can get his seafood and I can get a decent steak!!!
I wanted to love Jiko, but we may have hit it on an off night. It wasn't all that terrific.
I want to try bluezoo but I'm not a seafood eater, so that may have to go untried!!!
Even our meal at The Brown Derby wasn't 'all that and a bag of chips'. I am giving it another shot when dh and I head down in November.

But as of right now?? Artist Point and Shula's get my vote!
