Lately I've noticed alot of people following their dream and making the move to Florida.
For about 10 years now I've expressed a desire to live in Florida but my husband does not want to. He's quite comfortable in his current world which does not require job searching. He said if I could move my job down there or find him a job he would move to Florida.
My question for those of you who are moving to Florida....Did you search for a job for a long time, are you just retiring there, or did you get a job transfer?
I really dread the winters here in Chicago.

I have wanted to move to Florida for 17 years now and I am 17 soooo... I guess that makes my life one big wish fest...lol
I hate the weather here in Ohio too!
My parents can't seem to find a job down there so since its my senior year coming up, I am going to college down there!
GO FSU!!! lol

Well at least you picked FSU and not UF :) Good luck, enjoy Tallahassee. I'm rooting against you first game of the season and then I'll root for the Noles for the rest of the season. GO CANES!

I can't apply for work until my visa gets finalised ( which will be when I arrive in Fl) . So I'm relying on finding something when I get there. Looking through the Orlando Sentinel I think there are a lot of jobs advertised that I could do, it's a question of finding one I want to do.

In your husbands defense it's very difficult to break out of a comfortable existance and to take a risk on something new. Often it requires an external pressure ( like being fired or a life altering experience) to give someone the push required to take a chance.

I can't blame you for disliking the winters up there, I can't blame him for his lack of willingness to want to move. I think with many people the motivation to move comes from realising how much more you can get for your $ in Florida than in many Northern US states. The equity released from a home sale in the North can provide a buffer to a move to the warmer South. In your situation I don't think it's an easy move.

For those of you living in Orlando..........what area do you suggested a "Chicago transplant" looks into........looking for either new construction or existing homes.

Thanks!!

chrissmiss56,
We're in the same situation as you ... dreading another Chicago Winter, and hoping to move to Orlando soon. In fact, we have an appt. with a local realtor to sign a listing agreement on our house on Tuesday. The only thing holding us back is that our eldest has ulcerative colitis and we've been referred to a ped-GI in Orlando by her current Dr., but if the standard of medical care is in any way inferior to what she receives here, we'll stay. Wish us luck -- we make a visit to Orlando on 8/14 for three weeks to seriously look for housing and to meet the new ped-GI.

I second that feeling. GO NOLES AND GO CANES.

Vernon, Thanks for showing me my husband's side. I guess I'm just dying for a change somehow and I'm tired of "wanting" to move to Florida. I'd just like to make one of my wishes come true.

Gosh - it must be something about the Chicago area! We lived in Chicago our whole lives (in Rockford for the past four years).

My DH has been begging and pleading to move to Florida. I want to go because of the weather, but my whole family lives in the midwest. I'm very close to my family, and I feel the people we are connected with is more important to me than dealing with bad weather.

Talk to me again in January. I may have a different opinion!

Good Luck with your search and the meeting with the doctor. I hope it all goes well. If you have a moment let me know how it went with the realtor. We are a few years away from the chance to move. However I love to research and for me you can never have enough information.

Thanks:tongue:
