I heard due to fear of swine flu, they discontinued the finger scanning for now. This should speed up the turnstiles, just wondering if anyone there recent can confirm?
the one used at the entry of each park, when you put your pass in and put your finger on the top, the scanner scans your bone structure to identify you.
We were there 5/7-5/15 and were at the parks everyday but only had to do the finger scan one time. I think it is hit or miss but not what causes the lines to back up. They didn't have enough lines open at any given day at every park and most of the time one CM was only working one side of the turnstile when they could have been easily working 2 or more. The cut backs have really affected all aspects of the parks and waiting in line to get in is one of them.
Also, we noticed the waits at some of the rides were longer than they should have been (considering the crowd level) because they only had half of the ride running...BUT, we had a great time anyway!
We were there on Friday May 29th, and were scanned at AK and HS the 2 parks we visited. In the past I have seen the scanner read your ticket, and give you the green light without needing to scan. CM's have told me this was based on the amount of traffic coming into the park, and an effort to get folks through the turnstiles and inside ASAP.
IMHO, with all the doors to open, handrails to use, grab bars, safety bars, etc, that everyone touches all day long, I can't imagine that sticking the end of ones finger onto that scanner is much exposure to germs by comparison.

Does anyone think that scan works? I have seen teenagers go in and then go give their ticket to their friend. Then friend goes through and gets scanned right in.

We have kicked people out of the race track I have worked in before. Half the group gets tickets and go in, then give the tickets to 1 person who goes out and gives them to the rest and they all go in. They say they left something/someone outside, dropped something, you name it we've heard it.
I've used my A.P. twice within 20 minutes at Epcot when I remembered I left something in the car that I needed. So there is a "way" this works. Plus, you can go into the same (or different) parks multiple times in one day on an A.P. My guess would be a park hopper would work like this as well.
Just for giggles, I've gone in using my DH's A.P. & vice-versa. No problems!
We were there on Memorial day weekend (F-M) and only once did we not need to use the scanner.
The only thing I noticed different about this trip was that every gift shop cash register had small sized containers of hand sanitizer for sale....that and the fact that all the umbrellas (except for the carts with the personalized ones) were sold out.
