For those in the northeast- where are u vacationing this summer?

I second/third the White Mountains. You can zipline, race little cars down the mountain, ride the Cog, Santa's Village, swim, and just enjoy the beautiful views!

Do you mind PM about your trip to Costa Rica? Where did you stay? Did you like it? Did you feel safe? My kids are 14, 11 and 6 with the exception of the 6 year old, they are ready to start traveling somewhere besides Florida!

Thanks so much!

Another person who wants info on your Costa RIca trip. We are looking into it for next year. I got one quote from a local company to put together a trip for us -- just wondering where you went and who you traveled with (or did it on your own). We are thinking Arenal & Manuel Antonio. Thanks.

We are doing a week of camping at Hamonasset Beach in CT for the first time.
We also always do two weeks in a beach house at the Jersey Shore.
Rocking Horse Ranch is also a great destination. (It is local for us.) They frequently offer special deals and rates when you sign up for the emails. Avoid the Pine Grove Dude Ranch (also local) it is a dump!!!

agree with both!!!! We once stayed at Pinegrove because Rocking Horse was fully booked. What a mistake!

We will spend a week in southern Vermont, and visit the Berkshires.

Well, Disney of course. By August we're up to our ears in Cape Cod beach :beach:traffic.

!

BRING MOSQUITO REPELLANT! LOTS! ;) Like, the really strong stuff! I didn't (I tried a 'natural' one) and we got eaten alive :crazy2:

I'm another one who's heard good things about Rocking Horse Ranch. Haven't been yet but know folks who have.

I'm probably the only one here who DOESN'T like Cape Cod! Argh, traffic, expensive and I was picking sand out of my scalp from the wind.

Actually, we're doing Disney this year.

But in non-Disney years, we love Lake George NY. It's gorgeous, and absolutely a family friendly area.

Disney at the very end of the summer. We're looking at something like Lake Placid or Lake George for a 3 day weekend as well.

The Berkshires!! Everything from hiking to horseback riding to Theater and museums (check out Kids Space at Mass Moca) to drive-in movies (hollywood drive in, Avril Park). Lots of beautiful spaces.

Hi Fellow New Englander: Have you done the Bar Harbor, Maine vacation? There is lots to do there. Hiking, biking, carriage trails, sea kayaking, and walking along the ocean are just a few of the things to do. You should be able to get a room for less than $200/night. I am sure that you can book a cabin, too, for a reasonable rate.

And Acadia National Park!! Great hikes and views from Cadillac Mountain, easy road to drive to the top if that's more your speed!

If you are in Bar Harbor for vacation, consider heading east to Campobello Island. It was the site of FDR's summer home, and there's a nice tour through the house, park, etc. JUST REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT!! Yes, you need a passport to travel between the US and Canada now.

We have done the York Beach/Portsmouth/Ogunquit thing (family is there), Portland, Sebago Lake, White Mountains, and Vermont vacations. All were fun... there's always something to do during the summer in this corner of the country. We live just outside of Bangor so get to go to Bar Harbor frequently; in fact, I worked there for several years. GREAT views from my lab window!

I don't like the Cape either. I was a Maine beaches kid growing up. I've been to the Cape twice on vacation and much, much prefer Maine even though the water is cold until August!
