For those in the northeast- where are u vacationing this summer?

I'm also just a few miles from Boston. With the ages of your kids you might enjoy Pointsebago in Maine. If you haven't been already then I do suggest places like Storyland, Santa's Village etc. How about something like driving to NYC for say two full days then going places on the way home such as the new Science Museum in Hartford, CT and Old Sturbridge Village?

We've done the White Mountains before and we all enjoyed it quite a bit. The kids loved Santa's Village and Storyland. Laconia, NH is a great spot for all sorts of activities as well.

This year we are renting a place in Eastham. The prices didn't seem higher to me than last year though. Where on the Cape were you looking? I can't wait to go!!! Coastguard Beach, here we come!!!! :)

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great time!

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! In reading through them, I think my problem is that we just travel too much! We go to North Conway at least once a summer to do Storyland and/or Santa's village (have a friend's place we can stay at). We are going to Point Sebago at the end of June as I won 5 nights there in an auction and we got it for practically nothing. We've been to Ogunquit with the kids (love it!) and Bar Harbor without them so I think I'll look into that. Also going to look into the campgrounds people suggested as well as Phippsburg, the Trapp Family Lodge, and the Elmwood resort. Hadn't considered Canada but might take a look at that as well.

Keep the ideas coming!! Thanks!!

We have stayed here quite a few times and always had a good time.
We did day trips to Maine, Hampton Beach and Sailsbury then came back and enjoyed the motel.

This looks great! Definitely might be checking out for at least a night or two with the kids (DH travels a lot for work).

coneeny4- Any idea what the price per night usually runs? The website doesn't give any rates. Thanks!

we have a pop up trailer and camp. I have camped in every New England state, New York and PA. I find it cheaper than renting a cottage or a hotel room.

We are also going to Maine for a week....Phippsburg which is outside of Bath. Been vacatioining there every year for over forty years..and I am 46. We are renting a big house on the water with other family members.

We are also going to Block Island for a week. Free trip since my brother has a house there.

One place I would like to try is in the White Mountains at a campground called Lost River Valley. They also have cabin rentals...which is what I would do. Our friends swear by the place and they aren't really into camping. Pretty affordable and lots to do in the area.

We camp in Phippsburg at Hermit Island. It is gorgeous! Seven beaches but no electricity! Oh well, it is worth it!

Dogluva...Too funny...We always camped at Hermit Island! This is our first year renting a house in West Point. My parents started camping there in the 1960's. And it was our two week summer vacation all through childhood and most of our adult years. Truly our favorite place in the world and now our kids love it. it has been over 40 years.

This year we are renting a house because my parents are in their 70's and camping is just too much for them...especially with no electricity or running water. (Have to admit..I will be miss camping there, but will be very happy if it rains!) Planning on at least visitng the Kelp Shed though.

Hermit Island is the best!

We absolutely love Lake George, we camp there every summer for two weeks. We live in CT and love LG so much we got married there! Somebody mentioned Hamonasset in CT which is a State Park, we are actually leaving in the morning to go there for the weekend. It is great there, right on the beach, great food options nearby, and things to do. The only problem is if you are looking for things to do you need a car and places are about 1/2 hour away, if you are up for hanging and relaxing it is great!

We head to Salisbury Beach every year for a week. The prices are reasonable for a house on the beach. Also people seem to like it up where I live for vacation.

that's where I live.

Never done it, but here that Smuggler's Notch, VT is a great family resort in the summer.

I would recommend Lake George, Have a couple of amusement parks and water sports and such. Mini-golf Story Town and history. Marthas Vinyard might also be a nice area for your family.

We're headed to Montreal and Quebec this summer. We've stayed in Ogunquit many a time and last summer did a North Conway/Storyland/Santa's Village trip.

It really is! I wouldn't stay there without electricity if it wasn't! I want to camp there this summer but all the good sites are taken- I may just go anyway. You have to book the minute they take reservations for the good sites. Next year I am going to be on top of it. Have fun!

Throwing my hat in for White Mountains too. We went last year and I've thought about that vacation fondly throughout the past year. We stayed in Lincoln, NH at the Comfort Inn - very decent and beautiful view. Go to Clark's Trading Post and make a day trip to Vermont - we went to Rock of Ages Rock Quarry (kids can sandblast their own slate), Ben and Jerry's and Cabot Cheese.
We also loved the Pemi Valley Moose Tour in Lincoln - one of the family's favorites during our stay there. We stayed here for 4 days then head over to Portland, Maine and went on the lobster boat tour. Have a great time with whatever you choose.
