For those DVC'ers that travel with school age children.....

11, 6 and 4...we vacation every year during school. We are allowed 10 days per year for vacation. We use all 10 days. Our principle has stated that family vacations are the best education we can offer our children.

It is a personal choice that we make as a family.

We do not always do Disney...we may do a cruise etc however, the only summer vacation we take it HHI (which we love).

WOW but do your kids still make up the work they missed or is that waived too. My kids as they got into middle and high school don't like missing because of the missed instruction for labs, group projects, classroom instruction....stuff that you just miss out on. I know my friend lives in 84 PA and they get a couple of vacation days but not 10. Even my 10 year old complained last year when he miss 2 days in 3rd grade and all the stuff he missed. We get letters in the mail if you send in a note saying your children will be out for a vacation. I think it is much easier to miss in elementary school...but with each year.....it gets harder at least in our county and all of my kids do extremely well in school.

I wish we could take off in Oct. That to me would be a great time to go to WDW.

When do you go?We use to take our kids out of school, but now we have a middle schooler and it is just too much work for her to miss any school. We are going in Aug. for the 1st time this year.

How often do you go? Ex. every year, every other year, 2 or more times a year? We go every year with the kids and atleast one kids free trip.

Which resort/resorts do you try and stay at and why? We have stayed at moderates, values and now at DVC accomodations.

For how long? Our family trip is usually 7 nights and our kids free trip 3 nights.

Do you always go into the parks? We are shortening our park days as we go, we use to do 5-7 days but this upcoming trip we will only do 3 days in the parks. We are goining to spend 2 days at Vero Beach and hand out by the pool more. How often?

How old are your children? 12, 10, 7, & 7

Yes, they get homework to take along. They seem to catch up pretty easily. My oldest is only in 5th grade so, things aren't that tragic.

Who knows what will happen as they reach the older grades, we may need to change.

When do you go? We used to go in late March when the kids were in elementary school. We would take them out of school. Not so easy in high school. We did go in the fall during conference week for several years too.

How often do you go? Ex. every year, every other year, 2 or more times a year? Every year for spring break now. Did go 2x a year for several years

Which resort/resorts do you try and stay at and why? OKW mostly. Our boys have grown up there in the past 10 years. We have stayed a night or 2 at BWV, BCV, and we are staying at AKV and SS in April

For how long? Usually a week to 9 days. Depending on when we could get decent airfare.

Do you always go into the parks? How often? When the kids were little we would go to the parks about 5 days plus a water park. Now it is about 2 day of long park days and 2 days of water parks. We pool hop a ton too. Been to them all except for the values. We buy 10 tickets and they last awhile for us.

How old are your children? They are now 12, 14 and 17, bought 11 years ago

Hello. We have 4 kids..DTS(9), DD(7),DS(4), and another DS due to arrive any day now! We bought into DVC planning to go every 3 years banking and borrowing to have longer stays. Our first stay was 3 years ago and we stayed at OKW 12 nights and BCV 2 nights. Our next trip is this year and we have a reesie for AKV 10n, THV 3n, and BCV 2n. We go in september to get the longest stay with our points and the kids miss 2-3 weeks of school but I think it is worth it to have the nice weather still but very few crowds. Our first trip we had barely any lines at the rides. Plus we get to enjoy the MNSSHP. I've found that pulling the kids from school in sept is not too big a deal since those first few weeks are usually review from the prior year. I like having the trips spaced out too so there is something new at maybe every park and the years in between we can enjoy other vacation spot favorites.

When do you go? September and October mostly - see sig.

How often do you go?
Every year since they were 2 and 4.
Which resort/resorts do you try and stay at and why?Almost always BWV because it's our home resort, we love it there (location, location, location), and I can get more for my points using the standard view.

For how long?Usually 10-13 nights

Do you always go into the parks? We go to the parks almost every day, but we usually just spend some time each day doing something else (Ex. DTD or hanging out in the room, watching a movie in the evening, swimming, playing games at BW Community Hall, etc.) How often?

How old are your children? 11 and 13

Our situation is a bit different than most, although it's not as unique as it once seemed. We homeschool, so we are not bound by a local school calendar. We adjust our school days to fit our schedule. We rarely take a mid-winter or spring break and we usually school longer into the summer than the public schools.
