For those DVC owners with an AP

We haven't done a full trip using the AP discounted room, but sice we drive to FL, we often spend a night or two at Pop Century in a discounted room before checking into DVC.

No. I have zero desire to stay in a "hotel" room vs 1BR or larger DVC unit.

EDITED: I take it back! I spoke too soon. Yes, we used passholder rates in 2005 to book two hotel rooms at Animal Kingdom Lodge following our "Bring back the Magic" Panama Canal cruise. Staying at AKL was an important capstone to the cruise -- part of our "must do!" list and AKV wasn't yet on the horizon. Given the event, paying cash for the rooms trumped using our points for the extra space. In the end, we were upgraded to a lovely, 2BR suite with wrap-around views. Perfect!

Yes, sometimes we like to fly down on a Saturday before checking in on Sunday AM. We generall will book a room at a value or moderate on an AP discount and sometimes add the delux dining for one night, which gives us 3 TS credits to use over 2 days, gives us a mug and we take the mug to our DVC resort the next day.

We're doing it for the first time this Sept. During our recent May stay, my boys fell in love with the Polynesian when we ate dinner at O'Hana. They begged to stay there in Sept, so I shortened our BLT stay and booked 2 nights at the Poly with our AP discount. I have a feeling my boys aren't going to be so in love with the Poly once we leave - they are very spoiled by all of the extra space that comes along with DVC 1 and 2 bedroom villas!

Since we became passholders in Mar. '09, we've stayed at POR and AKL on AP rates. We are also staying at POFQ on the 3rd on the AP rate. DW wants to do a "long weekend" at a value on AP rates soon.

We almost used the AP discount to stay at a moderate for our first night on our upcoming trip, but I decided to borrow points instead. I may regret it next year, but I just decided that when we get there I want to settle in and not have to switch resorts the next day.

Yes. Just two weeks ago I booked a studio at OKW using the room-only 40% AP discount. It is an impromptu trip to celebrate our anniversary at the beginning of August. Although we own at both BWVs and OKW, we have trips scheduled for F&WF in Oct. as well as next March for spring break so really didn't want to use any more points.

In the past we have stayed at POFQ as well as last Sept. we stayed at the BWI using the AP discount as well. Usually when we go and don't stay at one of the DVC resorts (on points) we don't stay a full week. It's a beautiful thing!:)

No, I haven't used AP rates since we purchased DVC (used it all the time before that.) We got a pin code earlier this year that I used for a cheap night at POFQ before our cruise in April. But I didn't care for it that much. I really do prefer DVC, even a studio compared to a hotel room.

We used to do 2 trips/ year -one on points and one w/ an AP room discount. Then we bought more points in 2006, and have been able to do our trips just on points.

We just did that in April for one night. We stayed Saturday night at POR on the AP rate before we switched over to OKW on Sunday. In addition to saving the points, we didn't get to WDW until 6:00 Saturday eve, so this way we could check in to OKW early.

Just used our AP to get a room for July 4th... :thumbsup2

There were no DVC rooms available.
The price was $165 cheaper than the price MS gave me.
Only $195 instead of $360...

We got our first APs this year. And had planned on making a reservation at POP Century for the first night, using the AP Discount since we too drive to WDW. We often stay off property that first night. However, Disney was offering a great price of $67 for a premium room at POP Century and less for standard. And the AP prices were not available for October earlier this month. So we booked with Disney online.

Was this the price for a studio? where did you get a room, if I amy ask?
Thanks,
Tina

Yes we did that for the first time at the end of May for Star Wars Wkends. It was a good deal, and it allowed us to go 3x's this year. So I would definetly do that again.

Our points never go far enough, and I use AP discounts, bounce back discounts, and *gasp* priceline for off-site resort hotels to make sure I can get to WDW for my hopeless addiction. In October, we're staying 1 night at CBR to help DH fulfill his quest for staying at all the WDW resorts.

When using your AP for room only discounts, is there a special number to call? Can it be done online? TIA

I usually check www.mousesavers.com for an AP code and then call for a reservation. I have a TourguideMike subscription, and also get the info from them. At the Disney site, if you input your passholder id, you can see the special offers, but I find it easier to speak to a CM to get the AP discount.
