For those DVC members, who have purchased add-ons

For those DVC members, who have purchased add-ons through Timeshares:

If you are looking for a 50pt - 100pt add-on, can you place a bid for a portion of a seller's points if they are selling a large number of points? We are already on the DVC waitlist for an add-on at BWV with a March use year, but our guide informed us that there are approximately 35 people ahead of us. So, we are considering Timeshare resale.

Resale contracts can not be split, you'd have to find someone who was selling an add on for that amount of points.

Small add-ons are difficult thru resale, since you will still have closing costs in most cases. Make sure you do the math before making an offer and compare with an add-on directly thru Disney- even if it's at a different resort. (You can also consider a larger add-on (150 or more points) with a resale.

Don't dispair. We were looking for a 50 point add on at OKW for our use year and just picked one up via Jaki at A Timeshare. We were also about 12th on the list via Disney--with no movement.

I would suggest you put your name in with the various resale agents and the point range you are interested in. I put mine in with the "big 3"; and found that Jaki seemed to follow up diligently and found us something in about 4-6 weeks (and it even came with 2 years of banked points!). Remember, many of these contracts with buyers waiting in the wings never make it on the web site listings. The two contracts we have bought never did.

It wasn't much cheaper than going thru Disney once the closing costs were added in; but it was exactly what we wanted and had more points (banked 2000 and 2001, with all 2002 in place).

Just make sure that you look at the final cost including closing costs; and pay attention to just how many points are in place.

As noted, contracts can't be split. There are however sellers trying to sell multiple contracts together. Maybe they added on and have 220 points (150+70) for example, these can be split. You might want to talk to the resellers and put your name on the list about small contracts but also ask them about those with add ons to see if they'll investigate selling them separately.

I also recommend getting your name on one of the resale company's lists...they seem to do a good job looking out for possibilities

Another resell purchaser here that suggests getting your name on a list with a timeshare broker. We purchased our first OKW add-on a couple of years ago with the Timeshare Store. We let them know the range of points we were looking to buy and what use year we wanted. They called us with an available add-on within a few months. Since you can't add-on at OKW, going through a broker was the only way at the time to add-on at the resort of our choice. Our costs were comparable to what we would have had to pay at the current price that was for sale at BWV. Since then, DVC offered OKW add-ons to current OKW members and we added on again. But that option only comes around when they have an excess of buy backs available so it's not something to count on.

I'll chime in and agree with everyone that the more resellers you contact, the faster you will find your add-on. I keep a list via phone and e-mail to let people know when small packages come in, as I'm sure the other companies do as well.

Because the sellers always have a choice, you never know who will have "the" right add on for you. Hope we can help soon.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies and advice. We leave for "home"(BWV and then VWL) in 12 days. We are going to visit all 4 DVC resorts to help us decide which resort we would like to add-on.
