I wondered if those of you driving from MS, LA, TX,.... do you take I10 all the way to Jacksonville and then down I95, or do you take I 10 to I 75 and then across the Florida Turnpike.

The I 75 route looks shorter to me, but according to Mapquest the Jacksonville route is shorter. Maybe its just my nature to want to get as close to Orlando as possible! :rotfl: Which route do you take?

We drove from the New Orleans area and went 1-10 and dropped off toward Orlando at Lake City and then took the Beeline Highway, I think that's what it is called. Seems this would be better than going all the way to Jacksonville and then down the coast. We made the drive in about 10 hours and we were REALLY PUSHING it. I had ridden in a Mardi Gras parade on a Friday night, so we left after the parade and drove from 12:00 midnight central time Friday and arrived at the port around 10:45 Saturday morn, Florida time, which was only 9:45 on central time. I guess we made better time because of driving at night. It's really not a bad drive although next time I hope to fly. I just waited too late last time the get a good flight time. If I have to drive again I would drive down the day before, then be ready for the Magic on Sat.

Thanks Jenpan, our drive to Disney is usually about 7.5 hours, so 10 sounds reasonable from New Orleans! :) I'm glad to hear you think it is shorter to do the I 75 route too. Really I don't care which way we get there. We will probably leave hear around 4:00 on a Friday afternoon. DH will be taking the entire week off the week of the cruise, so no way can we leave here much before that. We would probably spend the night somewhere along the way, get up early and drive into Port Canaveral sometime around 10:30 (I hope) when they open. I really want to be there early. Thanks for your reply. If I were flying, I would definetely fly in Friday night, but with a family of 5, flying is not cost effective for an 8-9 hour drive.

From just south of Atlanta, we take take I-75 to Orlando as well. Even though ALL the map websites say to go to Jacksonville. Wonder if it has to do with some of the toll sections????

I was going to say that when I've studied the maps, the two routes look to be about the same, but when you toss in tolls, we've just always taken I-10 to Jacksonville.

I never thought about the tolls! It's good to know that the distance seems to be about the same. It may well depend on wether or not University of Florida has a football game that night. If they do, I might not be able to get a hotel room and the Jacksonville way may be it.

Interesting that Mapquest is showing it closer down I-95, that just doesn't seem logical to me. We have driven multiple times from Texas, we take I-75 down from I-10 and then cut across to WDW on the Turnpike. Maybe Mapquest is set up to avoid turnpikes and stay on Interstate hwys. That just seems so out of the way to me.
