what type flooring do you have and do you like it?

Next year we want to tear up the carpeting.

Ugh! Carpet. My goal is to never replace carpet in this house with more carpet. We are just too hard on it with kids, dogs, etc...

We've replaced some with hardwood floors. Our family room and foyer have a maple floor that came from a basketball court. It has been refinished, so there aren't painted lines on it. Our kitchen and sunroom are tile. My next project is to do hardwood upstairs. I'd like a rustic hardwood, maybe even whitewashed for up there.

We have a mixture. Tile in the kitchen, laundry room, and the bathrooms. Hardwood downstairs with a 8 x 12 area rug (I think that's the size) in the living room and the same setup in our bedroom. Hardwood in entryway and the dining area too, but then in both of the kids' rooms we do have carpet.

I love the set-up that we have. I feel it's much cleaner than carpeting thru out. Not much real dirt makes it to the kids rooms, so their carpeting stays pretty clean.

About 3 years ago, I got rid of all my carpet and had hardwood put throughout the house. I love it it and don't miss the carpet at all. I do tend to wear slippers now (I never did before) because it is a little "hard on the feet", but other than that, it is wonderful.

We just have a standard oak floor with 7 coats of poly.

we have a laminate that looks like wood

love it...easy to clean...easy to get...really nice, thats what we replaced our carpet with.

We went from carpet to wood floors. (pergo wood) ;) and it was the best thing we ever did. We still have carpet in our bedrooms, but rest of house is wood. bathroom is tile
I can not believe how much dirt/dog hair/dustbunnies we vacuum up in the wood floor vac. That used to be trapped in carpet. GROSS.
its just easier to take care of....but I will say...

you notice the dirt/fuzzies a lot faster and you will tend to vacuum/swiffer more because of it. but we are really happy with them. ;)

We were talking about this, I do want something that is going to be farily easy to clean.

I went from a tile-hater to a lover. The 2 dogs are tearing up the hardwood we have.

I am really thinking about marble...Who has that?

Does Pergo sustain dog nails running at full speed?

90% of my house is ceramic tile that I had put down 1 year ago - and I love it. The people that owned this house before had carpet in all the areas you came into the house from the pool - they obviously didn't have young children! I have laminate in a small area as well, that will be replaced with tile. Pets and carpet don't mix!!

I love the ease in cleaning. I use a broom and dust pan (one with a long handle) each day, and wet mop them once a week. I agree that when you see what you find on the uncarpted floor each day - it is kind of gross to think it's in the carpet - as vacuuming never gets it all! I'd much rather sweep and mop then run the vacuum!

The laminate I have is Pergo, and it has held up well with dog feet! My dogs (and cats) have races up and down the hallways which are Pergo, and no major scratches or gouges.

We have some tile and its OK except the grout starts to come out after a while. We have a lot of hardwood floors and I love them. They are easy to clean and you know they are clean.

In our current house we have Pergo laminate wood in the bedrooms, family room and both downstairs and upstairs hallways. In the kitchen we have vinyl and the bathrooms are tile. I love the Pergo. It's easy to care for and looks really nice.

In our new house we'll have hardwood in the livingroom, dining room, family room and downstairs hallway. The kitchen will have vinyl, the bathrooms tile and the bedrooms/upstair hallway will have carpet. We would have liked to do hardwood in the bedrooms as well but with all the other upgrades it was just a little more than we wanted to spend. We figure within 5 years we'll replace the carpet with hardwood.

I am getting ready to redo my living room and I really want to go with a laminate wood floor. I'm glad to hear they don't get scratched by the dog's nails. That was my main concern in getting laminate.

Hardwood in all rooms except the kitchen, bathrooms, hall to the garage and front door where we have tile.

Thanks everyone.

Dh was checking out Home Depot and said he wants to go with a laminate. We don't have animals so that's nothing we have to worry about.

A close friend said that after tearing up all carpeting and having Pergo installed that she notice a big difference in her Asthma (for the good). I am hoping for the same.

I have asthma and yes it will help. Do your bedroom first.

I have oriental carpets over my hardwood floors. It's too cold here in Wisconsin not to have something on the floors.

I have ceramic in the bathroom, kitchen and dining room and hardwood all throughout the rest of the house(real hardwood, not the laminate stuff) except for my daughters playroom, thats carpeted since she is always playing on the floor in there and it was a room I added on to the house so it did not have orginal hard wood like the rest of the house.

We have tile everywhere, but I would only recommend it if you live in a warmer environment, as it tends to have a cooling effect.

Our Whole house has hardwood floors!!
And I can't stand it I need to buy som area rugs!
Hardwood floors collect alot of dust!!!
I sweep at least 3 times a day! :yay: well hey at least I am getting some excrsize! LOL

I have a love hate relationship with my flooring. it is ceramic tiles....the entire house. In fact, that is the only option around here. I never realized how much work it would be....sweeping and mopping. It is a full-time job. I finally got the dry swiffer and the wet swiffer and they are a lifesaver. However, it does not change the fact that I deal with dirty floors and dust bunnies...dust is everywhere. Sometimes I wish I had the carpet for the simple vacuuming, but then I see how dirty the floors are when i mop and know that would be int he carpet.
