Ladies how do you narrow down your selection of clothes to pack? i always say im gona bring the right amount of outfits and when it comes time to pack i never do.

Maybe it's because we travel as much as we do (at least 2 international trips a year for 30 years), but I hardly have to think about it any more. I managed a 10 day trip to Europe with only a purse and carry on size suitcase! yeah: even surprised myself with that one.:rotfl2:

Basically for summer trips I figure 1.5 sets of underwear per day. 1top+1 bottom (shorts/capris) per day that can be mixed and matched. I NEVER pack white slacks/shorts/capris: guaranteed to be dirty before you get to the parks and they're transparent when wet:scared1: 1 dressier outfit (slacks/top or sundress) if we have a signature dinner planned. 2 pairs of footwear minimum for the parks (don't wear the same shoes 2 days in a row)- sometimes I'll pack a dressier pair for evenings. One bathing suit and coverup. One light sweater to cover my shoulders if the A/C is too much. I only pack enough clothes for a week, no matter how long we'll be away.

I also pack laundry detergent (this time am trying the Purex sheets) and will do laundry at least once if we will be there a week or longer. There are laundry facilities everywhere.

Really it just comes down to editing. Lay out everything you THINK you want to take on the bed. Then be ruthless. Pack only things that you can mix and match, and only enough for the number of days you're going. Putting in items "just in case" is not allowed!!

For cooler weather: since perspiration isn't a problem, I reduce the number of outfits. Usually can wear slacks/capris more than one day. Often can wear a shirt or sweater more than one day. Will add a jacket.

We with just hand luggage and don't check a bag....I take 3 outfits, 1 bathing suit, 2 pairs of shoes per person. We avoid light colours at all costs. We do laundry when needed and I bring purex sheets. As well I pack a stain stick , and shout wipes. Yes it means I have to buy a sunscreen but it is still cheaper than checking a bag.

Not a woman but I've helped a few get down to one bag (else I end up hauling everything :rolleyes1).

The mix and match is a big help. Pick out two base colors that work for you and only pack items that work with both colors. That'll make sure everything works with most everything else. Use light accessories, like a shawl or scarf, to turn a casual outfit into a dressier one. If you want to get fancy some travel clothiers like Travel Smith offer items like dresses that can be worn multiple ways.

Another option to laying everything out, and something to help with the next trip, is making a packing list. You can edit it after a trip with things that worked or didn't and make the next trip easier to pack.

good ideas ladies and guy(u had some really good ideas) im gona try the outfit in a ziplock bag idea where you pick an outfit and put it in a bag and label it.:cool1:

usually I lay everything out on the guest room bed, then go day by day, outfit by outfit. I too choose things that I can mix and match....and bring extra shirts. there's nothing more nasty feeling that sweating all day in a shirt and not having anything to change into. (we don't do laundry while at Disney, so I pack a little extra):goodvibes

Well, going in the summer means taking more clothes for me, but the clothes are so much smaller, so they don't take up as much room.

I pack at least two outfits a day. I sweat more than many men, so I absolutely must change my entire outfit. Underwear - 3 pairs a day. Bras - 2 a day. (Or wear built-in bra tops.)

My normal day goes like this:

Morning - casual outfit for in park (shorts and tank top)
Dinner - cute dress
Post dinner park time - if the dress is not too fancy, I can wear that in the park. If it's fancier, I then have to have another complete change of clothes for the evening.

Shoes: Keens, flip flops, nice sandals

I have a futon bunk bed in my spare bedroom. About two weeks before I leave, I put the bottom bed down and get out my packing folders and packing cubes and put them on one end, so they'll be handy. In a slim cube I pack enough underwear for one pair per day, plus one extra pair and also a nightgown. In another slim cube I pack enough bras to have one for everyday and one extra and add a roll of Hollywood tape (to make sure my bra straps don't show down there:rotfl:). I then roll up two swimsuits and a coverup and stuff them in a small packing cube. If I'm going to any signature restaurants I roll up two sundresses and put them in a small packing cube. No matter how many signature restaurants I may be going to, I never pack more than two sundresses. Since they're not on that long, I don't mind rewearing them, if I need to. I match all the other outfits I want on hangers and narrow them down until I have one outfit for each day, plus one extra. I hang the rest back up in the closet, so I can't get to them. I hang the ones I'll be carrying from the top bunk and hang them in the opposite order that I'll be wearing them. I then add two pairs of flip flops and if going to a Signature restaurant, one pair of nicer sandals. The weekend before I leave I fold the outfits into a 18" packing folder in the opposite order I'll be wearing them (the extra outfit, then last day's first, then the next to the last day's and so on) so that when I'm finished the first day's outfit will be laying on top. When I get to the resort I'll hang up the sundresses, but just slide the other outfits out of the packing folder and put the stack on the top shelf in the closet or in a drawer. They'll already be folded neatly and in the order I'll be wearing them. Every morning I just take the top outfit off the stack. I usually carry one black and one brown/tan pair of flip flops that will go with every thing. I use mineral makeup and have alot of tiny 3 gram jars that screw together in little skinny columns. I use those jars for vacations and put a small amount of primer, foundation, top coat, two blushes, maybe six eyeshadows, and two liners in them, then divide them into two columns. Each will only be like 1"x1"x4", fits easily into a makeup bag, and still give me a variety of colors to choose from. I add a small 2" flat glass plate for swirling (really a small flat votive candle holder I picked up at the dollar store) , a small mirror, and a couple of tiny travel size lipsticks and couple of tiny lip glosses, and a small travel size mascara.

I am pooh size and usually go for eight nights/nine days and all of this will still fit into my 20" Heys hard sided carry on. Using packing folders and packing cubes, you can really squeeze alot in there. I usually drop the makeup bag, a divided plastic envelope with trip info in it, camera, cell phone, battery chargers, a book, MP3 player, prefilled pill boxes, a Vera Bradley mini hipster, and a box of snacks in my personal item.

I've been going to Disney for almost 20 years now. I've been over packing for about 15 of those years. Im a list writer and an feel like I need to be over prepared for everything. For my next trip.. I
am forcing my self to pack as minimal as possible. I've made a list from last year of what I packed and another one of what I actually wore! It was litterally cut in half! I've lost some weight too and am hoping to drop about 15 more lbs. So by the time my vacay comes around I'll need some new clothes! That is exciting! But i'm still only packing the minimal amount of clothing. I do laundry while im there and where my staple items so why pay to check a bag to just have clothes come along for the ride! I bring plain casual clothes I can dress up with a scarf or cardigan other wise everything is basic black or grey and purple so I can mix and match!

I found that I didn't pack enough outfits this past trip. We'd start early morning and take afternoon breaks. It was extremely hot and I would shower and need another outfit for the evening.

If we do another trip in the summer, it will be two outfits for every day and my rainbow flips, sanuks, and a pair of sneakers.

We always do laundry about 1/2 way thru a trip while we relax at the pool. I plan this so its part of our schedule.

I always pack extra socks, underwear and bras though because of the heat. Nothing feels better than nice, dry socks! I also use either a purex laundry sheet or bring powdered in a ziploc bag.

I really try to focus on what I know I enjoy wearing and I never bring anything that I have to think twice about. Our last trip in September my daughter and I just had carry ons. It was hot so she only packed 3 sundresses and 3 sets of shorts/tops. She also packed 2 pairs of sandals and wore flip flops on the plane. We both carried a sweater which we didn't use.

I plan what I am going to wear each day and limit my packing to that(one shirt, 1 pair of shorts, underwear and bra plus a couple of sundresses for the whole trip). I do not mind wearing the same pair of shorts twice if i need to but will not wear the same shirt twice even if I wash it. The main reason is that we take so many pictures and I do not want it to look like I had the same shirt on all week:). I think it you just plan for each day you will find that you pack alot less than normal. Plus the cloths you wear in the summer take up so much less room so that saves space also.

I agree, mix & match works great! I packed tan, navy & brown shorts & capris then had shirts that would mix/match w/any bottoms. I did the same for my kids & it worked out perfectly. We did not take breaks so I didn't need 2 outfits per day & we did laundry while there. We all wore our bulky shoes on the plane & carried jackets so I didn't have to pack them. Plus the plane was freezing so it helped to have them.
