It depends on what exactly is meant by flirting. A compliment is nice, no matter who it comes from. Overt flirting is annoying unless it's coming from a nice girl!
Ok seriously, would most straight men be comfortable if a gay man started flirting with them? I doubt it! Just as most straight women wouldn't want me coming on to them. Most lesbians, myself included, have had to deal with their fair share of the straight man's fantasy of watching two women have sex. There is nothing more offensive to me than having a guy flirt with me with the notion that he is gonna go home with me and participate in sex with me and my partner. But it happens. A lot! A lot of guys don't understand the meaning of the word lesbian. So that is very, very offensive to me.
Now my neighbor is straight and has a nice girlfriend. We hang out with them all the time and sometimes he will tell me I look nice or that he likes my new hair cut of whatever. I find that to be perfectly nice and it makes me feel great. But that isn't flirting; it's just being nice. Nice is nice! I'd never complain at that. But if he started flirting, then our friendship would be over. Eeew, that would be so weird! I should add that if a stranger started flirting, I would set him straight about who I am. If it stopped at that moment, I wouldn't be offended. But if it went on beyond that I would be majorly pissed.
