For the first time in forever, I wanted to go back to Disney right away after getting home.

I have always enjoyed Disney as an adult, but never had that urge to go back every year. I have taken my kids when they were younger (like 5 year old and younger), and they never really had a deep appreciation about it. No long lasting memories for them. Our last trip had been in 2019 and my kids don't even remember much of anything. When we told them we were going in Feb 2022, they were not very excited. Not because they were brats, but because they really did not remember much of Disney (too young).

That changed 1 month ago. My boys are now 9 and 6 years old. We went to WDW the second week of February and it was the best family trip we ever had. They were old enough to appreciate everything, from the rides to the atmosphere. Looking at their faces, laughing during rides, excited during fireworks, was absolutely priceless. They would hug me at times during the day saying "thank you daddy, this is the best day ever".
It was very tiring for me and my wife, having to coordinate everything (genie plus, ILL, ADR etc.), specially staying off site. However, it was SO worth it. The memories created with my family were special. The long lines, all the planning, the driving, the expenses, were so worth it. I definitely had fun myself, but most of my fun was knowing my kids were having a special week. That feeling is hard to describe, but if you are a parent, you probably know what I am talking about.

I already booked my next vacation for Feb 2023. Not because of Tron, or GoG, or food/etc, but because of how appreciative and happy my kids were. They still talk about the amazing time we had last month. They ask about upcoming new rides and how awesome the trip was. This is what Disney is all about (at least this is what I see, specially as a Dad). This is gonna be the first time we will be staying at a Disney resort (We booked 1 week at Boardwalk villas), mainly because of my kids. I want them to have the full Disney experience.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my satisfaction. I know parks are not as they used to. They are too crowded, too expensive, but when you look at your children's happiness, all of that becomes irrelevant.
As someone who has spent a lot of money on materialistic things, seeing my kids growing, I changed my perspective. I now want to collect memories, not things.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing. I too have enjoyed the parks more and more each trip. Cherish those moments with your family!

Love this. Thank you for sharing your positivity! I'm glad your family had such a great trip and I'm also so happy to hear that it's not all doom and gloom! We have a trip coming up soon and I've been worrying. Our last trip (2019) I literally cried on the way back to the airport 🤣 We had just had such a great time and made so many great memories, and I couldn't wait to go back and do it again. Seeing all the negativity it's easy to think it's just bound to be a bust, so posts like yours make me supppperrrr happy!

yeah, just look at the bright side. If your family is having fun, that is all that matters. I had made peace with myself that I would not be able to ride everything. Once you accept that things are different nowadays, it is easier to enjoy the process. Have a nice trip!

Yup - I'm just working on adjusting my mindset. It's not even limited to Disney itself, but even in relation to my kids and the stages they're in. My youngest (21 months) has been in tantrum-mode lately and I'm starting to worry about how this is going to go on that front. I'm just sort of preparing to be okay with rolling with the punches - if it turns out to be a trip where we just let the kids use the play areas while we eat and drink everything WDW has to offer, then so be it.

bring the stroller, and a tablet and you will be gold!

Ooooh, you're going to love the Boardwalk! We were there last June and it is such a perfect area....now heading for the Beach Club Villas in August and I Can. Not. Wait. So excited!!!! I hear the poster who said they cried on the way to the airport, that was me as well, and I knew I had to get back there soon.

It is great to hear from others that just enjoy going to Disney. 7 years ago I had to force my husband to go to Disney. Our son was 7 and huge Cars fan. I said, I want to take him before he is too old an he misses out on the magic. Seeing my son's face when we walked up to the Wheel Well Motel, and all the full size cars at AoA, he still talk about it!

We have gone to Disney once a year since then. My husband even says, he is surprised how much he enjoys it. I realize it is crowded, but it is just the 3 of us for an extra long weekend. No work commitments, no homework, no laundry or dishes, nothing to distract you from just spending time together, and that is the part that we love. Plus the churros and mickey bars!

I agree 💯. If our kids are happy, we are happy 😊

I always feel that way. I have always had a certain comfort level vacationing at WDW. I probably will not get back
as often as I would like, my girlfriend doesn't share the same attraction.

That's awesome! That is also why we always return to Disney. It's the family time and the experience, despite the stress and challenges. Glad your kids enjoyed it and you got to enjoy them at such a fun age.
