We currently use the Coleman Quickbed air mattresses (queen and twins). The ones we use are the lower mattresses. I do want to say that we do truly LOVE these mattresses and love the Coleman brand... however, we are considering moving to the raised air beds thinking they will be more comfortable for longer camping trips. Before I invest in the more expensive raised height air mattresses... I would love some feedback from those that have the experience with both types.

1. Are the higher raised air mattresses more comfortable than the lower ones?

2. Do they hold air as well?

3. What about keeping warm on cold nights? Are they harder to stay warm on? Would a heating pad under it heat in up as well? (We use a foam interlocking exercise floor in our tent for cold nights, but have experienced some very cold air mattresses in the past).

4. In our experience we have had great success with Coleman for non leaking... any other brands of the raised that you recommend?

Thanks in advance....

I just have the Wal-Mart brand double high extra long twin air mattress. I've found it works just fine.

In the winter, I use a heated mattress pad and an electric blanket.

Nice an toasty.

We've had considerable problems with air leakage from all the air mattresses we have used, whether lower or raised models. They seem to start to seep out air in the second-third season. We've used mostly Ozark Trail, available from out WalMart....twin, double, and queen.

Over the years we've tried a few different versions. Stacking 2 Queen size, Raised mattress, etc. After one trip where some water ended up in the tent after a horrible rainstorm, we decided to go with one of the raised bed frames that you slip a queen mattress into. We use regular Queen sheets and and are almost at normal bed height. Also you don't have to worry about the mattress getting dirty or possibly wet. Over time if you do get a leak, it's just a queen mattress and not the whole thing like a raised mattress would be.

That is fabulous...I am thinking of getting one of these. Thanks for sharing!

thanks for the tips... I am mainly looking for comparisons between the lower height mattresses versus the raised mattresses. If anyone has info. on just comparing those, that would be great.

Thanks again!

I have enough trouble getting up off the raised mattresses. I would still be crawling around with a low model (mattress).
