My wife is starting a small business and she will need to accept credit cards. Who do you use for Merchant Services?

I signed up at the bank for Visa and MC. It takes usually 2 days and the money is put into the checking account. Once a month the fees are taken out.

So far she has checked with one local bank and they charge $34/month + 2.19% + $0.10 per transaction. This is using software based charging not using a card reader.

Banks are usually the most expensive way to go. I have a friend that has a local company that does this and they are very good, but they are only in MN. Will she have employees? If yes, find one near you that will bundle services-payroll and CC processing, etc. You will save money doing that.

The bank signed me up many years ago with a company that does the processing. I think the monthly fee is $5. Your average transaction fee is usually based on your average transaction. My avg is probably 4 or 5 thousand and we call the cards in, you pay more for that as well. It is very hard to pin down the exact % that they charge, they really don't want you to know. You also get better rates with a history.

I have a girl handle all this for us, I will see what the name of the company is that we use and get back to you. We have used them for 10 years and have had not one problem

I use Wells Fargo at 2.25% OR $30 a month. No fee if they make over $30 in a billing period. I've been with them for 11 years and never a problem.

Try http://www.propay.com. They've had a special contract with the Mary Kay cosmetics consultants for years. That is such a huge business, and the consultants get a lot of individual customers.

I used them for a while when I was doing a lot of craft fairs. I think there is only a yearly fee, and then you pay per transaction. This was great because if I didn't sell anything between craft fairs, I didn't have a monthly fee to contend with.

When I had my company, I used Paypal. It allowed me to accept credit cards as well as payments directly from my customers' bank accounts. My customers did not have to have Paypal accounts to pay me through Paypal as long as they had a major credit card.
