For Our British Friends - Is it a shock that the Queen is passing over Charles?

Maybe you should post this over on the U.K boards? They asked this question on the 12:00 news here today and it made me crazy to listen to people's opinions based on ZERO knowledge! Many Brits are true Royalists..see what they say?

Myself, I haven't a clue. I think maybe it might just work out that by the time the Queen leaves this world it might be more suitable that William become King? :confused3

Buckingham Palace has denounced claims that Prince William will take over a substantial part of the Queen's duties as "total and utter fabrication".

The Mail on Sunday reported that the Queen was passing on more tasks to her grandson.

The paper said the monarch was cutting her workload owing to her age.

A royal spokesman told the BBC that Prince William was gradually taking on more engagements but there were no plans to by-pass Prince Charles.

The Mail said it had obtained treasury documents showing a change in financial arrangements for the princes that revealed the shift in Prince William's role.

But the spokesman told the BBC: "Prince William is gradually undertaking more public engagements as he takes on more patronage. However, his focus remains for the foreseeable future on his military career."

The Queen is 83 years old and has reigned for nearly 58 years.

I actually didn't read it that the crown wouldn't pass to Charles, more that she was handing some of her duties over to William, which is fair enough as she is getting on a bit now! Hope I'm still keeping going as well as she is when I'm nearly 90!

As I understand it, constitutionally she can't bypass Charles as he is the heir by right - HMQ does not "name" an heir as such. Charles would need to abdicate to pass the crown to William and he has always said he wouldn't do that. Poor man has waited years to get the "top job" as it is!

Camilla is still a huge stumbling block for Charles' popularity over here though, so pushing William more to the fore will be a popular move. He has kept his nose clean so far, unlike Harry, although Harry is arguably the more popular just because he does get into scrapes now and then!

Still think you will see King Charles III at some point.

Did I read somewhere that he planned to be crowned George VII?

I wish she could there is no way I am bowing to that old slapper he married after cheating on his wife with her all through his marriage.

Thanks for the info on this thread. I still miss seeing Diana in all her generous adventures. Since we don't have Kings and Queens, it's very interesting to see how that all works.

Well we ,the Netherlands, would gladly hand some of those royalties over to your country.:lmao:

Correct me if I'm wrong,my friends from across the pond, but since HRH's full name is Charles Philip Arthur George, can't he decide to be known as any of those names?
