? for my UK podcast peeps

I just found out I have to go to London on Saturday and will need to leave there and go straight to Orlando for the podcast cruise.

I am flying on Delta into Heathrow and the office is near there, we are staying at the London-Heathro Crowne Plaza. However, the best flight on Delta getting to Orlando on May 8 leaves out of Gatwick.

So my question is this, is there an easy/ cheap way to get from the Heathrow area to Gatwick?

I'm sticking w/ Delta in hopes of getting an upgrade - I hate flying coach over the pond

I know it's rough, although I had hoped to be in Orlando on Thursday night. It's funny every time I plan to go to Orlando this client sends me to the UK.

I would personally use the train, the bus services are sketchy at best (from hearing from others) UK traffic can really mess you around!

I would take the underground from Heathrow to a somewhere like London Victoria and take a First Capital Connect train from there to Gatwick via the circle (National Rail says the quickest way is by Heathrow to South Kensington on the Piccadilly line then circle line to Victoria, there are maps on the transport for London website, www.tfl.gov.uk). It would probably be the quickest and cheapest way. According to National Rail Enquires (www.nationalrail.co.uk), it would take about an hour and a half (I put in a guess time of 7am) and cost about £15 from terminal 4 (where I think Delta goes to) to Gatwick Airport. I would leave yourself lots of time, but underground trains come every 4-5 minutes and the Bedford to Brighton line (which Gatwick is on) has trains every 15-12 minutes in peak time.

If you are going very early in the morning, the trains may be further apart.

As you can see (not having a car at the moment my self) trains are my area of speciality, especially London trains! If you need any more help, let me know!

Thanks for the assistance, I ended up sucking it up and switching to United, no chance of an upgrade but at least I don't have to get up so early to get all the way across to Gatwick.

I've gotten way too spoiled. I was supposed to go to CA for the two weeks before the cruise but of course they had to change my plans at the last minute.

Now I have to figure out what to do for the weekend I'll be there. Wonder if there are any new plays I should check out.

personally, i just love to walk around london...

there are some really great walking tours that i've enjoyed...i'll try to find the websites...

i also did a ghost/pubcrawl that i really enjoyed....i can't remember the name of the guide, but he was outstanding...it was the perfect way to spend friday night...i went by myself, but no big deal as there were several other solo stranded business types on and we had a great time...
i'll see if i can find that website, as it wasn't with london walks...though perhaps they have something similar...

you can buy theatre tickets online - ask on the UK board for recommendations of online ticket companies (i've bought through the hotel concierge - but that's very pricey)...
you've probably already seen it, but if you haven't, Wicked is very enjoyable...
or Avenue Q if you haven't seen it...we enjoyed that one as well...
if you never saw Joseph, i noticed it's playing....another one we enjoyed..
and of course, i'm always up to see phantom, chicago, or hairspray multiple times...

A free weekend in London, so much to do, so little time. I think I would be at the British National Museum or the V&A as soon as they opened.

I know, I just hope they don't make us work. I spent some time there three projects ago (maybe 4 years ago) but I never made it to any of the museums. I did do a few of the walking tours - I liked the Jack the Ripper one, I think the other was about ghosts.

Thanks, I'm keeping the FE's as "non-bulky" as I possibly can. The tube doesn't sound like much fun w/ two suitcases and a backpack.

I know there is a discount ticket place to buy tickets on the night in Leicester Square (similar to the one in Times Square New York) it depends on what is available but good if you're flexible with what you may like to see it is good value!

I don't blame you for trying to travel light, I was part of a group of 14 that were going to Belgium for a Scout and Guide camp and we all had on massive backpacks using the tube in rush hour - we were not popular! - and using those escalators was the scariest thing

Leicester Sq is fun a spot, they tend to have movie premieres there too. And yes it is a pasty! Back in the olden days pastys were covered in pastry to be used as a container rather than part of the food, they would discard the pastry and eat the insides!

I think we've had our snow for this year, the country was brought to a halt as apparently we don't have any snowploughs and not enough grit in all places
