Mal, this is OT, but I was wondering how your DS's first day of kindergarten went. LOL, did you survive? I remember my DD's first day. The teachers met us in the entrance hall to take the kids to the classroom (and I guess also so we moms wouldn't hang around too much). My DD looked so little, but she thought she was so big! I left with tears in my eyes and was a nervous wreck all day until I could pick her up. But she had a ball!

Hope your DS had a good day and that you did too.

Not Mal, but just wanted to say my DS starts Kindergarten on the 28th and I am NOT looking forward to it!! :( He is, of course, all excited about his new clothes and sneakers, but I am crying on the inside...LOL...Seriously, it is so hard, I hate to even take him, so I am making DH do it the first day!!

Mal, please tell me how you got through it???:(

I was the basket case. His school does a phase in so only 4 students go each day once a week for the first two weeks.

DH and I dropped it off at school after pictures and video of course. We took him down to his classroom and he went right to work.So we did not hang around.

When we got home the reality set in.And the tears started to flow.Even DH shed a few.It was SOOOOOOOOO quiet.
I went to cleaning house I mean really cleaning. So as to keep myself busy.He gets out at around 3 pm and at about 2, I went downstairs and said isn't time we go pick up Ian? No wait til about 10 til....that has to be the longest 50 minutes of my life.

And during that time lots more tears.

We picked him up at 3 and he was hungery and completely worn out. But he wanted to go to McDonalds. So we went to McDonalds where he told us all about his day.And how he "did not miss his mom and day all day" Nice huh!

So in all HE had a great day!

Beanie- I don't know what to tell you.I wasn't going to go to take him to school because I thought I couldn't handle it.But the taking him was the easy part(for me)it was the when I got home that was the killerand then waiting to pick him up.Wish I had some great words of Wisdom for you. All I can say is Good Luck!

Oh bless your mommy hearts!!!! I still remember my daughter's first day of Kindergarten, LOL and she is going into the 5th grade this year. You want to know a little secret? I still cry every year when she goes back. I worry that maybe they can't take care of her as well as I can, will she get her feelings hurt, will someone pick on her?

Every year is as hard as the first one for me. I don't guess I'll ever be one of those mom's that counts the days until summer vacation is over. I count the days until it starts:(:(:(:(

Mal, we did phase in kindergarten too. Make sure and explain to your son that there will eventually be bunches of kids there. LOL, my daughter didn't understand that until she came in and there was a room full of people.;)

Thank you for making me feel better. I thought I was the only mom who still cried at the beginning of school. At a PTA board meeting last week the other moms laughed because I'm not ready for school to start and they are counting the days. I agree completely with dmslush. I worry that she won't have fun or someone will make her cry. Thank you again for making me feel normal. By the way I found these boards last year after booking our trip thru a TA and paying over $5000 for a nine day trip. I thought how crazy these people are for going 2 years in a row. Yes, I just made our ressies for exactly 1 year from the time we went last year. I guess we are part of the crazy group now! It really is a magical place.

Here's a dad's point of view...WOOHOO!!! DD is off to kindergarten on September 4th! Sure, I'll get alll weepy when she gets on the bus and when my DW starts to bawl her eyes out.

DD is the last of three to head off to school which translates into me getting more sleep (I work nights), more opportunities to fish, and more chances to work a little overtime ( have to pay for that next trip!).

Well I'm here to tell you that I used to think the first day of kindergarten was the worst, now I know the last day of elementary school is much worse, it's like they become teenagers when they hit middle school. On my son's last day of elementary school, I cried when I dropped him off because it seemed like yesterday I was dropping him off for kindergarten (our school had instructed parents to drop the kiddies off and go on home, so I did, and cried so much my MOM actualy called the school to make sure DS was okay, which he was and was loving it!!) I know with DD, regardless of what the school says, when her time comes, next year, I'll walk her in.
