I am in a honors biology class in school. I am a sophomore. It is kind of confusing on how my school works, but I'll try to explain. IPS is the basic, academic science course that the freshman take. The freshmen that did REALLY well in 8th grade science can go into honors biology. The basic science course for sophomores is academic biology. I did really well in IPS last year, so I am in honors biology (with the freshman). Anyways, these freshmen get on my nerves so bad. (sorry to any freshman out there, but I can't stand these particular ones). Anyways, not a day goes by that they don't say things that are like DUH!!! LOL. They are all very intelligent, but as I said, have ZERO common sense. We were talking about genes and stuff today and one of the examples was left-handedness vs. right handedness. We got one through the ENTIRE period and there was not one DUH! comment. But no, thats not how it works. The bell rings and I hear one of the girls say to another girl "Is it possible to be half ambidextrous?" (sp?). The other girl said "Huh?" The first girl said, "Well, not half ambidextrous, but like 75%". I have NO clue what goes through their head. That is just the most recent of many, many examples I have.

Sorry, just had to vent a bit. Every day I go to my locker and tell my friends the "freshman DUH! moment of the day".

Usually it is the Seniors that can't stand freshman. You are a sophmore with Senioritus. Just wait till you get to college, you will wonder how half of the class even got there.

I am quite sure this is the case.

But as far as the OP goes.......there are sooooo many intelligent people out there with no common sense. A perfect example are doctors. Trust me, I know. They can get though pre med, med school, residency......but ask them to sign and date something. They give you a blank stare. And Im not saying all doctors are like this, but the majority of the ones that I have come in contact with have been.

Smarts and common sense are two very different things.

It just constantly amazes me what they say. They can't read, either. On the side of the room, there is a counter where the teacher keeps all the papers that we do so that anyone that was absent can just come and take the papers. There is a sign above each of the 2 stacks of paper. These sign's are printed on computer paper, take up the whole pager and are in huge, bold, black and white font. You can't miss 'em. One says Mr. X's class. One says Mr. Y's Academic Biology and the other says Mr. Y's Honors Biology. About 3 feet away from there are those plastic trays that you put papers in. In those trays are the papers that we use for extra credit. EVERY SINGLE freshman that is absent walks right past the signs to the extra credit tray and says "Is this what we did yesterday?" And the sad part is that they all have done the extra credit numerous times and know what the paper looks like.

I am not the only one that feels this way about the freshmen this year. Just about the whole sopomore class as well as many of the upperclassmen feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, I love some of the freshmen. Some are really cool, but the ones in my biology class. It just makes you wonder. And as far as the doctors with no common sense, I know what you mean. My dentist is one of them.
