for glasses wearers, how do they hold up on rides?

I had read somewhere (maybe here?) years ago about a strap that was excellent for rides, even upside down ones. i am trying to remember what it was called. i did get one and it worked GREAT!!

the string or rope ones could come off too easily imho, but this rubberized "tube" type strap (tube all the way around, no foam/neoprene) i got really sticks to the ends of the arms (of the glasses) and its not too long so you cant see it under my hair and its not too long so doesn't dangle and annoy me. and believe me, i get irritated over the littlest things! lol

i ended up getting it at a local flea market in a nice hot pink color, not sure where else you can find them.

My daughter is 12 and she has to wear glasses all the time now. She doesn't want to bring her case or her purse if she doesn't have to. She goes on all the rides. Is there any rides that would cause her glasses to fall off? I know some are rough, we've been many times, but we don't know if glasses would fall off on any of them. We'll be at all 4 parks. Is there any rides where she should take them off on?

Nothing against you one bit, I just found those two lines a little amusing . Typically, hot pink is not a color you get when trying to "hide" something . (Now, I get what you're saying and all that, and I don't mean it snarky or anything negative or anything like that at all. Just amusing!)

For me, RnRC with my older glasses was the only one that I had concerns about (they were looser than these). I haven't redone RnRC since (just circumstance, not related), but all the other rides I never had an issue. If they fit right, they'll be fine. Get a strap for extra peace of mind (as described above), but they'll be fine in most places, just be a bit extra cautious about them.

I wear mine on all (but RnR) Disney rides and they stay on my head.. I don't wear one of those bands either.. any upside down roller coaster they come off and go in my backpack... only the upside down ones.. I don't want to take a chance on them... if I loose them, I will be out big bucks... progressive, transitions are not cheap.. not to mention.. I won't be able to read a thing without them...

My last few pairs of glasses were wire frames and I always felt confident wearing them and never had a problem. I now have plastic frames that just seem looser on me and don’t seem to tighten the way the wire ones used to. I feel pretty good about most rides, but a few make me nervous because I would be royally screwed if I lost them. I’m blind as a bat and that’s the same reason I wouldn’t want to take them off on a ride…..what’s the point of the ride then if I can’t see anything.

I think the advice here about a strap is a good one. I will be looking into getting one for our next trip.

lol, np. i just noted that you couldn't see it under my hair, if that was the child's concern. i always wear my hair up in theme parks so obviously it shows

Space mountian makes me FEEL like my glasses might fly off. Rockin Roller Coaster is going so fast and the g-force makes them stay on very well- even on the inversions.
The only ride I remove my glasses is on Splash cuz I don't want them all wet. I tuck them backwards inside my shirt along with my lanyard.

As PP stated if the glasses are adjusted properly they should not fly off.

Still, if she can't see without them, a strap is cheap insurance... either the "granny strap" with the cord/rubber rings, or the neoprene wetsuit strap should do fine...

I have worn my glasses on most rides (not Rock n roller coaster-only one I don't ride) and never had a problem. I use to take them off for Tower of Terror and couldn't see a thing, so the last few years, I've left them on with no problem. My glasses fit snug and don't slide. Make sure DD's glasses are adjusted properly. Also, I always take an extra pair of glasses and just leave them in my suitcase. Just in case.

My oldest wears glasses and I know she keeps them on for everything. I lost sunglasses on BTMRR, but that's because I had them on my shirt, not my face.

Thanks for this thread. This is my first summer with glasses. I also have prescription sunglasses. So I'm trying to figure out what to do about all the switching of the glasses. It doesn't help that I am always cleaning them. I am so high maintenance.

I have prespriction sunglasses as well, but I went to Wallie World and bought some clip ons for my regular glasses. They are so much easier to take on and off and if I lose them or they break it is no big deal. Save your prescription sunglasses for reading by the pool.

I have never once lost my glasses and never used a strap. I think if you glasses fit tight, you will be just fine.

I like to wear an older pair of glasses to the parks (my prescription hasn't changed much) and leave my current good set of glasses at the hotel. If I lose them, then it's not that big of a deal. I've done this and have only taken them off for RnRC and Kali River Rapids without issue.

For Waterpark slides though, I'm the blind guy stumbling around as I know that they will get lost there.

I take mine off for RnRc but that's it, and only because it goes upside down (seen plenty of things fall off people, e.g. head bands, on rides at home to dare to risk my glasses on a ride like that)

DOn't really enjoy the water parks as much because I can't wear them for the slides or in the main pool. So I spend my time just in the lazy rivers so I can still see things! ETA: I can't wear contacts, which is a shame because I used to love swimming but I now don't go often enough to justify the cost of prescription goggles.

I think that the tube thingy is from "Croakers." I have used one at a water park where they insist you wear one. Comfy and extra insurance. I believe that I bought mine there and even at waterpark prices it wasn't very much.

True. I wouldn't do it for one trip. They do fit differently than regular glasses though and it's not the same as just putting a strap on your existing glasses. And they're good for a lot more than just sports.
