Eventually it happens to most of us. It happens slowly, but one thing at a time, and before you know it, you will have created that feeling of "Welcome Home" to that vacation dimension we all love.
Thirty years ago, DiznyDi and I built our home. A few changes occurred along the way, but the outside always remained the same - dark brown shingles with faux timbers at the peaks and eaves, and bright orange doors. After thirty years of telling people to find the house at the top of the hill with the orange doors, we just needed that change. All of the doors now are forest green, and our home definately has that VWL feel as you pull up the long drive!
As the years have past, with each visit to "The World", the lights around our wrap around deck have gained carved heads from the Animal Kingdom hanging below them. And for her B'Day, I designed and built a Micket Wind Vane for the top of the garden barn, held up high with a large Mickey Hand. Every gentle breeze seems to point the Mouse to something important in our lives.
And one of the things I enjoy the most is creating and installing the hidden Mickeys around the garden and barns. They can be a show stopper when one is "discovered" by a guest or family member. Mine are small and the collection is just starting out, but they are really fun to do.
And of course, our interior has slowely gained a few items to remind us of our other love - SSR.
And it is not hard for anyone to know we are Disney fans - with vanity license plates and chrome Mickeys on the cars, and Mickey business card holders holding the expected and unexpected.
We haven't done the Disney furnishings yet, but time will tell.
Although it seems like lot, it is all very subtle, and not easily noticed by those nor enthused with the Mouse.
Have fun with it and let it tell you "Welcome Home"!
