I too envisioned the Rock as Ranger but checking out the photo I too think this guy could fit the bill. I never envisioned Ranger as huge...just FINE .
I don't watch Greys but wasn't her character in 27 dresses kinda quirky so maybe she can pull it off. The only thing I would say is that she seems like a 'tall' Stephanie. Not sure about the Morelli casting. I think Eddie Cibrian (CSI Miami) would have been been a good pick - maybe not italian but definitely cute. Umm Grandma Mazur, I'd cast Betty White, Stephanie's Mom - Cindy Pickett. I just saw SON IN LAW yesterday and she plays the main character's mom.
Overall I'm excited they are making a movie. Hopefully it will be good because I know there are tons of fans that are looking forward to a big screen version.

I can't see Katherine Heigl as Stephanie, but I think Jason O'Mara will be a good Joe. I don't know the guy playing Ranger but he does seem kinda' wimpy. Wondering about Lula and Grandma. Definately Betty White for Grandma, but I am sure you would have heard something. Going over to check on the new book. It is something I look forward to each summer.

For some reason I don't see Betty White as Grandma Mazur. I always imagined Estelle Getty, until sadly she passed away. I was actually thinking Andrea Martin could do a great Grandma. She is an amazing character actress. They would have to make her older, but I think she would be hilarious. She was the little ouzo drinking aunt in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

I might be the only one, but I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo disappointed that they have cast Katherine Heigl as Stephanie. Putting aside that I cannot stand her, even if I liked her, she isn't Stephanie at all to me. Maybe she will be great, but I just can't imagine her in this part. From the first Stephanie book I read, I pictured Marisa Tomei as Stephanie. I know she's really too old now, but Katherine Heigl??????????????? I don't get it.

I think Sherry Shepherd would be AWESOME as Lula though !! She's got that same spunk. (and penchant for tight outfits) I also think that (if he was younger) Michael Pare would have made a great Joe Morelli ! (he's who I'm picturing when I'm reading the books! )

I was really disappointed with Katherine Heigl also, I just don't see Stephanie in her at all. My sister and I have been trying to "cast" this movie for a while and came up with many of the ideas others have posted.

I'm with many of you - I just don't "get" the casting of Katherine Heigl.

Heigl has been looking for a "franchise" roll like the Patterson books Womens Murder Club that also is numbered as in 1st To Die or Sue Graftons Alphabet series with Kinsey Millhone, both of which i prefer over this writer. i am Plum serious. give her a chance. the mistake will be to make a chick flick romantic comedy out of it. if they keep some edge and suspense we will see what she is made of.

I like Sherri Shephard as Lula. Niecy Nash is another option. If we're talking about actors that may be a little older for the part, I think Jason Gedrick (The Last Don,Iron Eagle) would have been a good Morelli.
I'll have to check out some of those other series mentioned. I really like this genre of books - good mystery but lightweight. I have been searching for something to keep my interest between Plum novels. I'm not as big of a fan of the between the numbers books however the one where her sister married the lawyer was pretty good.

I agree with Sherri Shepherd as Lulu. I can definitely see it. It might make up for having Katherine Heigl as Stephanie. I like KH, but so far she always plays really girly roles and Stephanie just isn't the girly type. I could maybe see Anne Hathaway (from The Devil Wears Prada, Princess Diaries).

I sure as heck hope Heigl is a brunette for the part, at the VERY least. I'm miffed about this..

I can't wait to see who will be Morelli and Ranger! I vote for The Rock (or whatever his real name is) to be Ranger He's not quite the right ethnic mix but he totally fits the sexy factor.

(And I just went back and read the previous posts ... glad to see that others thought of The Rock too)

It really goes to show how much we visualize the books we read, right?
We are all seeing the same actors as the characters in the books, why? How? Are we picking characters from their other movies to fill our imagination?
For example, I picture Estelle Ghetti's as her Golden Girls Sophia character when I read Grandma Mazur.
I wonder if Evanovich sees her characters when she writes?
Many of us can only think of Stephanie as actresses we say are too old... Marissa, Sandra, etc. Over the years I had read first Reese Witherspoon and now Katherine Heigel were going to be Stephanie, neither stereotypically Hungarian/Italian or Jersey.
What is amazing is that it bothers me, I guess because I don't want to lose the characters that I have in my head.
