Oh yes. The 100lb. lab mix sleeps curled up (and I use the term loosely) at the foot of our bed...actually at MY foot of the bed. He knows better than to encroach on any of "daddy's" space or he'll get the heave ho.

Our new dog Lilly (a blue-tick) sleeps in between DH and I, on her back, belly in the air.

By morning I am usually clinging to the edge of the bed and shivering with no blankets...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have a 10 lb Havanese (non-shedding) and she sleeps in our bed every night. She has her own pillow at the foot of the bed, and sleeps with her head on her pillow and her body on top of the comforter.

When DBF is traveling, she moves up bed to sleep right next to me with her head on his pillow.

If he's away, she doesn't sleep as well, though. it's like she's constantly waiting for him to come home and get into bed.

Hurley sleeps on his back a lot of the time with his feet in the air and I thought he was a very strange dog for doing that, but I guess other dogs do it too. When he does, he has his head on a pillow. When he's not doing that, he's got his head buried underneath one of the two comforters (I use whichever one he's not using if I get cold) and the rest of his body sticking out.
And to the cat owner, of course it's fine for you to chime in. When I used to visit my aunt and cousin when I was a teenager, one of their cats slept with my cousin and the other one slept with me.

Where else would he sleep? :rotfl2:

Six years ago we bought a Bichon Frise puppy...for the next 3 weeks he cried whenever we were not near. We tried the radio, crate, you name it and he would cry all night. My son couldn't sleep at night because his room was above the laundry room (floor that would clean easy) and that is where Chewy stayed. Finally one night I looked at hubby and said "maybe we should let him sleep in here with us". Hubby looked at me like I was crazy but agreed....the rest is history.

;)

I was told once that dogs will sleep belly up like that when they are hot...it cools them down.

Back when I was living the bachelor life, I never allowed my dog to sleep in teh bed with me, but many times I returned home and she was laying in my bed, head on my pillow.

Our six pound Yorkie sleeps on a blanket at the foot of our bed. He has hair that almost reaches the ground, but he does not shed. And he gets a bath each week or more often. He is the first dog I have ever slept with.

Oh TAG FAIRY!!!!!!:lmao:

Between the three cats who like to sleep in our bed and three kids who occassionally sneak down and get in it, there is no room for the dog (85 lb lab/rottie mix). Our dog has her own room and bed to sleep in and it keeps everyone happy!

I answered the poll as no, never BUT she used to until she started snoring too loud and I couldn't sleep. She's a pug & makes alot of noise for a little dog. She does go on the bed when we watch tv and then gets put downstairs at bedtime because I need my sleep.

My 6lb chihuahua sleeps under the covers by me and I love it. My Jack Russell Terrier sleeps in his own bed right beside my bed unless my DH is out of town and then he sleeps on his side on top of the covers.

Okay, maybe I'm not in tune with this, but can someone explain WHAT is the point of having a dog sleep in your bed? Whats so bad about the floor or the dogs own bed for that matter? This is an animal at the end of the day.

Never in our house.

With our breed, Komondor, it is absolutely imperative that the humans remain the alpha and the dogs at the very, very bottom of the pack.

As others have mentioned, sleeping in the human's bed gives a dog a rise in status, equal to the humans. Consequently, our dogs are never allowed in our bed at any time for any reason. These are big dogs with big teeth and are by nature guard dogs. They also have been breed for hundreds of years to be independent thinkers and do not have that same wanna please the master at all times temperament as your typical dog. Not a breed you want to have thinking they are equal to you and ever thinking they can challenge you.

I don't have a problem with dogs sleeping with their owners and I might allow it if I had a different breed, but with ours, you just can't allow it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it....different people do different things. I have noticed (and this may be strange, but it's true) that I used to have a lot of nightmares before Hurley started sleeping in my bed and ever since he started sleeping with me, my nightmares have almost stopped. So, it seems to benefit both of us.

Dogs want to sleep with their people -- they're pack animals. They don't go off and sleep all alone, but in groups (ever watch a pile of puppies sleeping?) Some dogs can't handle the "promotion" to sleeping in bed with people, and it's fine to keep them off. Some have no problems with authority and letting them on the bed won't make a bit of difference in that.

They're animals, but to many people they're also family. And it's really hard to get up in a bad mood when the first thing you see is a pair of eyes that love you attached to a body dancing for joy that you're awake and the day is beginning. (Dogs are much more reliable in this area than other humans)

Yes, and sometimes they save a spot for me.

It's a personal thing. You either get it or you don't. Like repeat trips to Disney!

There is no "point" to having your dogs sleep in the bed...other than it makes it toasty warm in winter...and I love snuggling with the fuzzy-wuzzies. there isn't anything bad about the floor, and the dogs usually start out their on their own beds and migrate up at some point in the middle of the night.

And at the end of the day, in OUR household, they are FAMILY MEMBERS. YMMV.

I agree that different people do different things but I still don't get it. I "guess" I can understand it if you say it has prevented you from having nightmares. That makes sense. But to just allow your “pet” to sleep in your bed for no reason is just strange to me. At what point do you treat an animal like an animal? If you allow your dog to sleep with you it almost eliminates any boundaries that separate man or woman from animal. IMO there has to be SOME sort of limitation on what you allow your pet to do as it relates to you personal space or else it just looks weird.
