LOL, and before anyone flames me,

I am from Jersey!:rotfl2:

Hopefully people will calm down after they are there a day or 2. Enjoy your trip!

:rotfl:
Hey! I'm from Jersey by way of South Philly! And I'm as pleasant as can be. :rolleyes1 Most of the time anyway.;)

I am an obsessive, anal retentive tax attorney by day. So, I plan, think, analyze and reanalyze and overanalyze my DisneyWorld vacations -- then I get on the Magical Express and start getting caught up in the magic. This past trip I was arriving around noon, and was planning on going right to the MK, day 2 was Epcot for F&W, day 3 would be Animal Kingdom and and DHS, and day 4 would be back to MK and day 5 would be one last time at Epcot.

So, I checked into CBR, got on the bus and off to the MK I went --- wow, kinda crowded here, so off to the TTC and Epcot it is -- the entire trip was wing it at that point -- depending on the weather or even how crowded the bus was for the park we were going to that day -- and it was the best vacation ever. Using my iphone I was able to change all our FP+ reservations on the fly and we made no ADR as we were planning on a stress free vacation.

Moral to the story, make the best of it, cause now I'm at my desk, and I have 4 research services open and two tax auditors asking questions - I'd rather be listening to the Tikki Birds.

I too will take grumpy guests in my magical place over work any day!!!

I read the tip about the portable cell phone charger and purchased one before our trip in October! It came in handy every day, as my phone was dead by the afternoon from all of the pictures I was taking. Thank you for the great tip!

I purchased one for this trip and will be so glad to have it.:thumbsup2

I think though Tom, we here on the dis are a minority. Now from your first line I'm making the assumption that you have a pretty decent income so Disney may not be a financial burden but let's look at some one like my neighbor.
Sarah's a stay at home mom and Dave is a maintanence guy at my local H.S. very nice couple got 3 kids, do ok but firmly lower-middle class life.
For them a trip to disney is a huge, tremendous sacrifice. When they went they picked my brain endlessly because they knew without a doubt that this was the only trip they were going to be able to afford.
They were fully in the Disney world hype. when I suggested possible staying offsite, to make dollars go further they quoted the "disney line" of being "immersed" in the magic. Nothing I could say would sway them. Even though I have had tons of "magical" trips offsite.
So for them the stakes are higher, they are going to be pissed if they get to MK and space mountain is down. for them, there is no rolling with it.

Heck, I'm a dvc'er and use to go annually, some times I could make the "best" of it and some times yes, I did have to get in disneys case. I pay 500 bucks a night for a room at the GF sorry, ain't no "making the best of it". My dollars are way to hard to come by so yes I'm complaining.

Now like I said, I like to think I'm polite even when voicing a complaint but I can totally understand the little things that can send a vacationer off the deep end.

I have been to Disney more than 10 times and Universal about 8 and to be honest, I can't recall any outrageously rude behavior occurring around me. However, I'm usually having too good of a time to pay super close attention!:cool1:

I think I rather have to deal with the drunks , I am sorry to say this but the people I try to AVOID like there is no tomorrow, big groups , no one is speaking English, loud chants while in the parks, that is the deal breaker for me , I get that this might their first time to America , and they are happy for the country , I get that but, happily though with most of our stays we have only ran into them in the parks not at the resorts, as for the kids running crazy I have grown to deal with it, its Disney, its excepted , and if it is your first trip down there I have to say this screw a schedule, go to the parks , ride the ride you want to , park hop go to 2 parks a day have fun its a vacation not a miltary operation where you have to do everything

I hope you didn't take it the wrong way -- what I meant was - make the best of your vacation and enjoy it. Certainly do not put up with poor service, heck that's why you are going to Disney, whether it is a value or deluxe you expect certain things of Disney -- quality customer service, clean rooms, and lots of things to keep you entertained. I'm just noting that our best vacations have been the ones where we threw the plans out the window and got done what we wanted to at our own pace. There's too many variables beyond our control to think we can do exactly what we want and when we want and will be remarkably disappointed if you think you can.

Oh no, not at all. I think I tend to remember my first trip and how much pressure I put on myself to have a "perfect" trip. I know how hard it is to let "normal" stuff roll off my back when I'm at Disney
And it's funny, for me it seems to be a "Disney" phenomena. I go to Europe, i never stress about room view, but some how at Disney it becomes Uber important go figure

I'm pretty use to the whole..parent yelling at the lid thing. I work with kids. And either the kid is out of control and the parent does nothing about it. OR the parent totally freaks out...when this happens on vacation its like...really? Be happy..

I love threads like this, because they actually help me to chill out and relax, LOL. I read a bunch of similar threads before our first trip, and when I'd find myself about to lose my cool during the trip, I'd remember that I didn't want to be one of "those" people. :thumbsup2

Could be worse. Could be " the Bronx Week" if they had one. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

You get a few 'types' of guest at WDW.

1. The family that has paid $5000 for this once in a lifetime vacation. They have very high expectations. They are staying at a deluxe resort, paid for the deluxe dining plan. But, sadly, they really didn't do their homework. They boomed a pkg, with a TA that really didn't understand how WDW works. So now this poor family gets there, clueless as to what they are about to experience. No wonder they're yelling at the kids.

2. Then you have the family that did their homework. They know exactly what they want to do, in each park. They have a sheet for each day listing where they will be at what time. They have potty breaks scheduled! But, they are now stressed because something happened to throw off their 'schedule'. Now they're rushing around, trying to play catch up.

Both types are going to melt down, and start arguing. I wish more people would buy a guidebook and get a clue as to what is going on. I wish people would slow down and pay attention to those incredible little touches that Disney does so well. After over 35-40 trips to WDW, I still manage to find something new each time I go. You can't do it all, see it all, on one trip. So don't even try. Slow down and enjoy this time with your family for crying out loud!

My mom had not been to WDW in a couple of years and she remarked on the very first day how many domestic 'discussions' she witnessed and how short tempered parents were with thier kids, etc.

Not picking here on this poster but wanted to remind that any "discussion" we witness is how many minutes in that other family's day? One? Two? I really don't think that family behaves that way for the other 958 waking minutes of their day.

I know I have turned to my husband who has asked me for the 15th time if I want something to eat and hissed "stop it!" at him. If someone coming the other way heard that, they would think I'm not enjoying the day. Truth is, a minute later we were laughing about his overprotectiveness.

Same thing with kids. I know my son has said "stop!" to my grandson who wanted to do something without holding a hand. Not safe and the child needed to be told. What the other person wouldn't have seen was right after when my grandson was being explained why he needed to stop and then getting a hug from his dad and his mom.

So, one moment does not make the entire day.

Tom- I think part of the problem is exactly as Eliza pointed out. Some folks have set the bar so very high, and they have either over planned or under planned, so if something changes they may just hit the end of the rope. Disney can be an overstimulating, overwhelming place, especially if one is not prepared for it. If you save and sacrifice to give your kids the best time and poof! They hate it, or someone is crabby, or they don't want to stick to teh schedule, or they want to swim.....:sad2: things can go haywire. I have my own "meltdown, and even though it was not loud, nasty or abusive, I still look back and with I could change my attitude. I took my 5 YO DGD to the Tea at the GF, had a blue Auroro dress made, and basically was over the moon that we were going to have a wonderful time. She hated every minute of it, right from the second we left the Poly to the minute we got back. I must have looked pretty pathetic, because even the CM's felt sorry for me. The kicker was when we got back she told everyone how much fun she had. And she meant it :p Now this was the only "letdown" I had suffered, but can you imagine if this happened over and over for a family. YIKES!

Not picking here on this poster but wanted to remind that any "discussion" we witness is how many minutes in that other family's day? One? Two? I really don't think that family behaves that way for the other 958 waking minutes of their day.

Oh, you can get a pretty good idea when someone is having a bad day when that person is berating a kid, all the way out of the MK. I don't think much of people having a spat, it happens, I usually don;t even notice. But I do notice those nasty commotions that make everyone around cringe.

This is vacation, people!!

I'm at WL...have been here since Saturday. There surely are some very rude guests here. They don't appear to be "together" but they all act similarly. No patience with their children, no patience with other guests, grumbling about every little thing, etc. On 2 separate occasions, there were a couple of "gentlemen" who very rudely told my 17-year-old daughter, "You just have to get out of my way because I have to get these drinks," while she was WAITING HER TURN at Roaring Fork drink station. And the list goes on...this was only one example of rudeness we've encountered from other guests just since Saturday afternoon. Not very nice at all!

There are many others who are kind, but I have always traveled at this time of the year to avoid the hot-heads of summer. I guess all good things must come to an end. :(

Sorry you have had a run in with everyone that forgot Disney is about magic and kids. Our 2008 trip was like that and I'm sad to say it was my cousin that was the rude one. We apologized to everyone we knew they were rude to. At one point my Dh was going to explode she told her 12 the trip was about her the adult having fun not the child. When the child could pay for the trip it could be about her. I think I forgot my husband paid the way for her family of 5. So the trip was about the kids.

I will say that people complain about people not controlling their kids and the next min complain about them snapping at and trying to control their kids.
Anyways we have been to WDW once last March and are going again in Jan. I would not trade the way we did it for anything. We went to the parks when everyone woke up spent afternoons napping/ swimming and back to the parks for the evening. Only had one meltdown with one of our four kids in the 14 days we were there. If you were to see us during that one melt down and judged us on that you would have been completely wrong.
We had the best trip of our life so far. The kids still talk about it daily. My three year old asks daily when we can go again ( Jan trip is a surprise). I don't know that I noticed others behavior.
