The WDW web site says that the Christmas story is narrated by .....etc. Is the real story told or a Hollywood version? In other words, is Christ mentioned?

It is THE Christmas story and it goes beyond to end with the poem One Solitary Life. If you want the true meaning of Christmas to inspire you and fill you with joy, this is IT for you!!! I was boo-hooing before it was over with and it was the singular turning point for my being "ready" for Christmas that year. I bought the CD of it, just so I can be re-inspired every year. Hopefully, we'll be there with Jim Caviezel this year!!!

It is wonderful!!! It isn't a Hollywood version - they weave the story of Christ's birth (similar to what you would hear in a church Christmas pagent) in between the choir singing Christmas carols. You don't want to miss it!!!

Probably a silly question but, is it the type of concert where you are just expected to sit and listen or are you allowed to join in with the singing? DH and I are musicians and we usually spend each Christmas singing carols and doing Christmas concerts (we even have one to attend the day before we leave.) I have read the list of songs and know most of them well so will I have to concentrate and not join in or can I sing along as well?

Personally, I looked at it as more a Broadway style and cailber show. I really wouldn't want the person next to me to be singing with the beautiful choir and singing quartet that they had. That being said, I'm sure you could sing along, but you might just be so much in awe of it that you'll forget to do so.

It really is a beautiful event.

It is THE Christmas story -- and it was awesome! We saw it several years ago and George Kennedy was the narrator. He did a wonderful job. It was the perfect way to spend Christmas Eve at Disney.

Enjoy!

As a Disney vet I am... call me dumb, but is this Candlelight Procession something you pay extra? Is it on certain nights? I have been to WDW 3x during the Holiday, but I have never done this before. TIA!

You don't pay extra for it, although you can get a dinner package that gets you a dinner (either before or after the show) and priority seating at the show. The show (which takes place in the America Gardens Theater at Epcot) has huge lines to get into it. I remember when we went several years ago, the line was tremendously long 4-5 hours before the show started. The dinner packages (although pricey) are the way to go, I think.

BTW, Fantasia, I think I saw you at the Poly at the volcano pool last Saturday afternoon around 12-3 or so. I was too embarrassed to say anything, but I recognized you and your kids from your sig picture. My brother kept yelling out "DISBoards" to try to embarrass me (so if you heard that, you weren't imagining things). Hope you had a wonderful trip!

Toward the end you will encouraged to sing along.....Halleluah Chorus and Silent Night, as I recall. Sometimes you can't help but sing along, it's just so beautiful and moving. LOVE IT!

It is presented three times a night and DH and myself normally try and catch all three performances. If we can;t get a seat inside, we sit at the base of the American Christmas Tree. Even from back there, it is moving.

It is performed a couple of times nightly at the America Gardens Theater at EPCOT from late November until a few days after Christmas. It is included with EPCOT admission.

Edit: Oops. Looks like the question got answered while I was typing out my reply. Sorry.

i think no one has mentioned this yet: as i recall, much of the narration is taken from the king james verion of luke 2. we have most enjoyed seeing it performed by gary sinise. i'm surprised he doesn't get more pub on this site. i thought he was excellent.

Thanks RyMickey and meeko_33785 for answering my question. RyMickey... That was us! We were at the pool Saturday around noon. I wish you came up to me so we can introduce each other. You would have been my 2nd DIS member who I could have met! I have only met one person from the DIS and he is not a regular on the DIS coz I don't see him posting anymore. Awwww... It would have been nice to meet you. I'm kind of shy myself. Unfortunately, I didn't hear your brother yell out "DIS Board." Or I would have looked around. Oh well... I hope you had a great time there! We did!

One of the songs the narrator asks everyone to join in for the chorus. I think it was for Let there be peace on earth.

Do you have to wait in those lines if you do the Dinner package?

There is a separate line for the package guests, you will be guaranteed admission. It can be long so if you want seats in the front section you need to get there early. I think the second section isn't bad (although it is not under cover if the weather is bad) if you don't want to wait in line. The package guests are seated before the standby line is opened.

I've gone the beginning of December and had no problem getting a standby seat on a weeknight by getting in line 30 to 45 minutes before. There were even times that we walked in 10 minutes before with no problem. A popular narrator or weekend nights can be longer and I imagine as you get closer to Christmas the lines increase.

I didn't know there was a Hollywood version of the Christmas Story.

I didn't know there was a Hollywood version of the Christmas Story.

We were there a four days before Christmas and the stand-by lines were long.

And, as for the Hollywood version, I think the OP was referring to the movie "A Christmas Story" with Ralphie and the infamous "You'll shoot your eye out" with the Red Rider BB gun. You know - the movie that airs non-stop on TNT over the Christmas holidays.
