Do you leave your computer turned on all the time? Or turn it off at night? or when not using it for awhile?

I've been turning mine off at night and I'm not sure if I should or not. Thanks...........

When I am home, my computer is on. At night and during the day when I am not home, it is off. I just am not home or awake to use it for so many hours that it makes no sense to keep it on. In college I had my computer on 24/7 so it doesn't matter really.

I turn mine off at night. but as someone mentioned to me, "you don't turn off the fridge, why turn the computer off. I guess that was a good point but I still shut it every night, leave it on alll day :D

Unless I really, really have to, my laptop is up all the time. I try and shut it down maybe once a week, once every other week. We even set my laptop up with a wireless connection to the cable modem, so I can take it to any room in the house if I want to.

online, both are off. We have a cable modem, and wireless for my laptop, but I see no need to keep it on unless I am using it. Same for DH and his desktop. Just a waste of electricity.

I turn mine off at night. My sister's tower recently caught on fire. Luckily she was home and paying attention.... or it very well might have caused a lot of damage. As it was there was just a fierce smoke smell that lingered after she threw the tower outside.

I turn mine off at night, but during the day it stays on.

Our computer is on 24/7, unless the power goes out or bad thunderstorms are rolling through. Now that we have WinXP we usually log off after closing out the programs we've been using.

We have a network here with 5 computers hooked up to the Linksys Cable Modem Router.

Because the Linksys box acts as a Firewall, we all feel free to leave the computers on. Normally we just turn off the monitors. However if I didn't have the Linksys Router I would turn the computer off to discourage hack attacks to my system.

Have Fun!

Unless I'm right in front of the machine, or, plan to be back to the machine in a short period of time, the computers stay off. Waste of electricity, and always the possibility of a machine or electrical failure to kill it.

And, I'd make a question of who does leave theirs on all the time.

How often have you opened it up to dust it? You HAVE TO do this reasonably often; a 1/16 layer of dust could cause an important part of the machine (cpu, power supply) to overheat and fail.

And you'd be surpised how much dust the machine collects.

It usually stays on all day, unless we are going to be gone all day but we do shut it off at night.

As most, I turn mine off at night. I turn it back on in the mornings & leave it on all day, unless I'm going out. Then I'll shut it off again.

But then again, I don't like to leave the crock pot on if I'm not going to be home!

mine is always on (cable modem).....the only time I shut it down is when we are away for the weekend camping....in the summer...so, actually all winter it is running non-stop
