For anyone thinking they DON'T need a reservation...

Yuck! I am not a fan of ADR's but I will be making 'em for this trip for sure! Thanks once again to the DIS for helping me plan wisely!

Sure ADR's are important if you are going in peak season, or if you absolutly want to eat at a particular restaurant (like Brown Derby) BUT, my husband and I came back two weeks ago, and we only had 2 ADR's for the entire 6 full days we where there. We ended up eating our way around the world (as my husband likes to say), including Liberty Tavern for lunch on Sunday, Monday we did have Lunch with an Imagineer which was one of our ADRs, Tuesday was Tusker House, Wednesday was Lunch at Alfredo's in EPCOT, Thursday was our anniversary so we ate at California Grill (our 2nd ADR) and Friday was Whispering Canyon.

I did call about 5PM on Friday evening to get in at 6:30 for Whispering Canyon as I absolutly love that place.

So my point, it IS important to plan to a certain extent, but not everybody needs to make ADR's for every breakfast, lunch and dinner during off season.
I know it would stress me way out, and Im sure it would others.

blueroses, very good post. I'm not sure how bicker and I can both agree with you but we seem to...

bicker for the life of me I can't see how pointing out to you that Disney does indeed have other legitimate business strategies at their disposal, other than this short term profit tact, isn't relevent to this discussion - especially when you've thrown out the "by law Disney has to act in the best interests of it's shareholders" spiel once again...But if you say so.

Uncle,what can I say. :stir:

To make sense, it assumes your insinuation that Disney is only pursuing short-term profit, which is simply untrue. If you would like to believe that I'm fine with you doing so, of course, but don't base an argument on your own insinuation. :rolleyes2 Okay?

It's a gift really, I just bring people together that way :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Nice try blueroses but bicker wouldn't agree with the boat captain telling him they were sinking while standing knee deep in water, so although we may both agree with your post we won't agree with each other for obvious reasons (he's wrong, LOL).:cool1:

Thanks bicker for telling me my assumption is untrue which assumes yours is correct, I would guess. LOL! :smokin:

The ADR policy is a short term money grab because it will be successful for only so long (all things must pass) and it will eventually turn off the locals and spontaneous diners as well as burden their chef's and other professional staff (who are already leaving) which will cause problems not anticipated when the fall off occurs. How do I know it's not anticipated? Because they have offered no olive branch to groups unhappy by these policies in an effort to keep them abreast at the very least. Heck, I know for a fact that the professionals are totally in the dark at this point (with regard to focus) and that they are very dissillusioned. So this tells me they have no contingency OR are very stupid in their application. When the problems start they will have to reinvent the wheel, which is not very good strategic planning. :rolleyes1 So while I may be assuming things there are very good illustrations and some first hand knowledge to allow these assumptions for the argument to be made. Okay?

And of course, you, without benefit of the vast resources of experience and expertise, know better than Disney, with benefit of its vast resources of experience and expertise. Okay, I guess we have to believe you. :rolleyes2

This thread's gotten boring. Seeyas. :wave2:

You know my qualifications and my history too, do you? So you are all omnipotent as well? Well anyway :lmao: ...Don't let that door hit you...LOL!

Sorry uncle, I should know better and I promise to try and be better.

My point is, that you need a reservation in ANY season, the fact is, there were NO restaurants available for walk-ins in Magic Kingdom, so much for spontaneous dining

Awwww...well that stinks! We were looking forward to a more relaxed kind of vacation in two weeks. Not having to be in places at a set time. Oh well....I guess it's off to plan some sort of an itinerary :headache:

180 days (plus, for Disney resort guests, you can book ADRs for you entire trip of up to 10 days 180 day prior to your check-in date).

Ok, can I ask for clarification here? Do you mean:

1. At the 180 day mark for check in day I can book the next 10 days of dining?

or

2. At each 180 day mark I can call and book that days dining, but only for 10 days of my trip?

The reason I ask is we have a 16 day trip coming up and now I feel a bit confused.

Thanks,
Mel

The policy is 180 days plus 10. At minimum you should be able to call 180 days from the check in day and make ADRs for the first 11 days of your trip - the first day plus 10 more. Others have said that they have been able to book for the entire trip, not just the plus 10 days. You won't know until you call if you can make ADRs for days 12 - 16.
