Do you have previous salon experience? I'm just trying to figure out what the chances of getting this role are for someone who doesn't have formal experience. I've been finding some conflicting information on the level of experience they require. TIA

Have you applied for BBB? There is a facebook group for the fall cp and from what I can tell most of the girls do not have salon experience. Working with kids seems to be their in.

My 20yo was among the first CPs at BBB (although she transferred in for her extension) and she had 0 salon experience, but had worked at Build a Bear and has 2 younger sisters. I applied for BBB for my own CP, have LOTS of experience with girl hair having 4 daughters who have all been in dance, etc, but I didn't get it, probably b/c I applied late in the season. I highly recommend applying EARLY, don't wait for a campus presentation.

I actually plan on doing the E-presentation. That's what I did the first time since I'd missed my campus presentation(although shh . . .I actually couldn't watch it because my computer at the time wouldn't play the video ). I'm also enrolled in a 100% online program and my school is actually 5 hours away from where I live so attending a campus presentation would be difficult. I actually don't even know if my current school is involved with the CP at all (I was at community college the first time around), so I have to wait to hear back from my advisor to see if they'll even let me apply . If she says to go for it, I'm going to apply as soon as the spring aps are up .

I guess my biggest concern was that they'd ask if I had salon experience and if I said no, that would be the end of it since I'd seen that was the case for a couple of people. I guess I'll have to be sure to elaborate if they ask me that, "I don't, but I do have . . ."

I'm BBB for fall 2010 and I'm not a licensed stylist or anything. I'm a make-up artist and I worked at Build-A-Bear Workshop and dealt with a lot of kids there. I think that was why I got in. My interviewer asked what I would do if one of the girls got upset or didn't want her hair done. I talked to her about how I had to dealt with upset children all the time and be at their level and relate to them to make them feel comfortable and stuff. If you have child care experience, that's the big thing. The hairstyles are pretty easy so you don't need a lot of hair experience, I'm sure it just makes it easier. You're playing a role at BBB, and relating to the children is probably the biggest thing.

One thing you might consider is if you have merchandise as one of your other choices, you could request to work at the BBB. Youre not a stylist but you get to work there and wear the cute outfit and everything. One of my friends was merch and got deployed there for a few weeks and loved it. Of course, requests arent guaranteed but it could be something to ask about.

I did BBB--Spring 2008 and I did not have salon experience. At the time, I was a recent college grad with a degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education. I had experience with hair and make up because I danced for 10 years and had competitions/recitals where we had to have hair and make up done.

I think you have to at least be able to do a ponytail and a basic braid. Fairytale was the hardest hairstyle for me because everything has to be super smooth and "perfect". With all different types of hair plus it being most popular, it can be a challenge!

Don't ever be afraid to have a trainer FGIT help you out..I've had to ask a few times for some challenging princess hair!

Hi everyone! I'm applying for the Spring 2011 CP and BBB would be my top choice as well. I love doing hair and makeup and working with kids (I used to be an education major but then I switched to journalism) and have a lot of babysitting experience and worked in the childrens department at JC Penney haha. I've been watching videos of the BBB on youtube so I think I already know how to do some of the hairstyles, at least the fairytale one anyway. I was just wondering if anyone knows how many cps usually end up getting BBB? Since most of you said you don't need to have professional salon experience, do you have to have professional child care experience instead? I'm positive I could do the job well and the hairstyles would be no problem for me but I can't really show them that over the phone! lol I'm also going to apply for attractions and merch and I love Disney so I'm sure I'll be happy wherever but BBB would be a dream job for me! Thanks for your help!

I applied for the 3 that you mentioned, BBB my first. My recuriter just asked me why I was qualified for the job : education major, worked with kids, babysat, did student teaching, etc. And then why I would be qualified for hair, nails, and make up. I told her that I had danced for 10 years and had to do my own hair *my mom was not good with hair! I told her my cousin works for Lancome so I've known make-up too and nails are nails. I offered to send in pics of braids or ponytail (must know those in order to be qualified) and she said it was not necessary. I wasn't asked at all about choices 2 and 3. I got a letter 10 days later saying I was accepted. I interviewed the first week of interviews.

In my CP group there were 15 CMs when I started in Jan. When I left in June it was down to only 5 due to people getting termed, quitting on their own, and wanting different roles. I worked as seasonal at BBB Jan 2009 and they had around 25-30 CPs because of a glitch in the system. I'm pretty sure that more girls in that group had no cosmo experience than did!

I think that depends on when u apply. I applied the first week applications were out and asked to be in MK if I got BBB and I got it They like to hear preferences, but like all the roles it's not guaranteed. But if you apply the 1st week I don't see why it would be a problem!

I wasn't asked where I wanted to be. On our first day of check-in, my roommates and I went on the Hub as soon as we got our log-in info and looked at our training schedule and mine said MK BBB so that's how I knew! I think they normally take between 10-15, maybe 20 at most CPs for BBB MK, DTD, I'm not sure because it's a smaller location.

I also had theater experience and work well with kids. With the girls I worked with at DTD, it was about half and half. Some were licensed cosmetologists, some had worked at kiddie spa makeover type places, and some just had a lot of experience with children. That is probably the most important criteria. The hairstyles are easy to pick up, but convincing a 3 year old that wants nothing to do with having her hair brushed that it's ok isn't so much. Good luck!

Hi, everyone. I'm new to both this board and BBB.

I just started @ BBB at DTD this week after I extended my program from QSFB at Flame Tree BBQ. Like a lot of girls here, I don't have salon experience. However, I HAVE experience with working with kids (babyistting, nursery ministry @ my church, taking care of my older cousins' kids, etc.). So if you DON'T have salon experience @ BBB, you are not alone.
