For all you Boma fans.......

It sounds like you are very curious about Boma because of all the rave reviews. I didn't see that anyone mentioned this, but how about going to Boma for a late breakfast/brunch? I haven't had the dinner there, but I've had the breakfast at around 10:00 a.m. twice. We basically had the whole place to ourselves. I am a fairly picky eater, but I thoroughly enjoyed almost everything. Plus, the breakfast is a few dollars cheaper per person than the dinner and the food is so abundant that it could serve as breakfast and lunch.

How about Boma's for breakfast? I took my picky 8 year old niece there for 3 mornings and she had waffles or french toast and bacon and then worked on the activity page they give the kids while I enjoyed quinoa, breakfast flatbread, boboli and other delights. There should be enough traditional breakfast foods to please all your picky eaters.

I'm a picky eater (and I can guarentee you 100% it is not by choice and I'd give anything to not be one) but I LOVED Boma!

I was actually surprised myself. I have to say that the smell was so amazing in the lobby of the AKL and I was so upset that I left WDW before having a chance to try Boma. So it was at the top of my list on my next WDW trip.

The good thing with a buffet is that there is always such a wide choice and also the opportunity to try things. There are two types of fussy eaters: those that try and those that can't. It just depends which type your family is.

I think you have made a good point. It really pays to try new things.

Mike and I went to Boma twice on our most recent trip. The first night was a Monday (they rotate the menu), the second was a Friday. Monday's choices were amazing, Friday's, not so much. I ate like I had never seen food before on Monday, Friday I couldn't seem to find anything particularly enjoyable. I guess it is really very enjoyable depending upon your tastes. We'll definitely go back again next year, but we'll skip the Tuesday/Friday rotation.

My husband & I have eaten breakfasss & dinners at Boma's many times since it opened almost two years ago. Many of the friends we have taken to Boma's also have enjoyed their meals. I am the first to say be advetureous & try the new foods.

However, on one trip the friend with us was a picky eater. She does not like to try foods she doesn't know. The CMs let my friend look at the buffet before she decided where to eat. When she saw oxtail soup, she decided this buffet was not for her. She went to Mara's & met us back at Boma's later for coffee.

So Boma's is not for everyone. I do agree with other posters that the food can have more spice than we typically use.

Here's a thumbs up from another Boma fan. Hey, how do you know you don't like it unless you try. A lot of the fun for us at WDW is the experience of trying new foods from other countries that we'd never get to try here at home. Give Boma a shot. You might just enjoy it more than you'd think. It's our favorite. Especially the coconut seafood stew. Oh boy, my mouth's watering just thinking about it. - Nancy

BobNC...

I believe I've agreed with you before on previous posts. This is no exception.

I will FIRMLY state that my DH and I are by no means PICKY eaters, if anything we are food-snobs, but NOT PICKY. I emphasize this because after my original review of Boma, I was accused of liking only McDonald's and Friendly's.

Here is my review from Feb. 2002:

Okay, I'm going to try to be very PC here as I know that there are many people who love Boma. But I have to say it was the absolute worst meal I have ever had at Disney. There were some good things about our experience which I will first mention. The atmosphere was lovely, the salad was ok (I liked the cilantro/chili dressing), our waitress was very nice, and the desserts were pretty good (especially for a buffet, but I didn't think the zebra domes were as good as the coconut tiramasu). Other than that it was all downhill...and here's why: The bread was dry and I had to ask for real butter, they served "butterine". The chicken, greasy. The fish was flaky, but had a yucky weird flavor, which I think was turmeric. The grilled veggies, yucky, cold, and soggy, the pork was dry and in this sweet marinade that did not compliment the flavor of the meat nicely at all. Although I like a pretty wide variety of foods, I found many to be not in my taste (i.e. the cornmeal stuff, the veggie meatballs- which my DH ate and he normally likes that kind of stuff but he said they were gross, I didn't care either for the selection of soups or the pap, fufu etc.). I ended up eating mostly the prime rib with tamarind BBQ, which was ok, but a little overcooked and dry, and the french fries, which were a bit soggy and cold.

I want to be clear that I really WANTED to like this place. I tried very hard to, but I hated it. I left feeling very unsatisfied and got a snack at PI later to make up for it.

If I offended, I am truely sorry, but I think it's important for everyone to post their opinion.

We are headed to WDW the end of this week (!!!) for the third time in the past year. We enjoy Boma for much of the food, but not all. The carving station fish and steak make it worth the trip even if you ignore the rest of the buffet. You also get to try some of the dishes also available at Jiko, only at a lower cost and without the risk of getting stuck with some exotic dish you don't like.
