For all the people who are 'freaking out' about the Carsland/DCA crowds...stop it!

Thanks for such a reassuring post!! We're going for the half marathon over Labor Day and we will be staying a few days afterward. Happy to hear that DL is relaxed and not crowded...just the way I like it!:thumbsup2

We will deal with CL one of those days and try to do all we can and the rest just enjoy ourselves!!

Thanks for this much needed dose of sensibility... Initially I felt good about the timing of our upcoming trip but then I started seeing these posts where people are panicking about how crazy Sept. will be. Panic, as we all know, is a pretty contagious thing. Doubt and unease started to set in. BUT NO MORE!!! Regardless of CL, common sense says there's NO WAY Sept is going to be a madhouse and "worry is a down payment on a problem you might never have". ;)

Saturdays this summer are definitely bliss. Even RSR is manageable on Saturdays, often around a 90 minute wait.

We were there yesterday and both parks were busy but enjoyable. The new DCA seems to have pulled in crowds that would normally be at DL, so DL is not as impacted as it would normally be. There were waits for the E-ticket rides and rides at CL, but not unexpected during the summer months. The lines were quite manageable for us when we took advantage of fast passes throughout the day. :thumbsup2 The only times we found it to be crowded was during the parades (Mickey's Soundsational/Pixar Play). I'm not a big fan of trying to get from one side of the park to the other during these times. Ugh.

Bottom line: Like the OP said, don't change your plans over unfounded fears...come and enjoy! :)

Thanks for the perspective! I think my boyfriend will be glad to hear this, he's never been but the thing he's been nervous about is the crowds, he doesn't love them! They really don't bother me but that had him nervous, glad to know it's not as bad as we heard!

I appreciated this post so much! As DLR newbs we truly don't know what to expect when we hit the parks on Thursday. I'd already decided that we'll mostly enjoy just BEING there. But I have a growing suspicion my DS will get to ride all his must-dos multiple times... with the exception of RSR. If we can do RSR standby once and FP it once, I'll be very pleased... but it's reassuring to think that we'll have so much flexibility throughout the rest of our time in the parks.

We were there on Friday and couldn't agree more with this post. My husband and I are AP holders and typically go on Sunday mornings for a couple hours before it gets crowded - but were fully prepared for things to be a little crowded on Friday being that its summer, etc.

We were in shock as to how dead Disneyland was - we got fast passes in the morning for both Space and Indy and when we came back to use our Indy fast pass at 9:30 it still only had a 10 minute wait and then over to space it had a posted way of 10 minutes still but it end up being closer to 20, but still. We never used the fast passes.

Even DCA was pleasant, Carsland included. Around 10:30 we got on Mater's in about 20 minutes and then around noon did RSR single rider and got on in 35 minutes. Up until the evening time, RSR was right around the 90 minute mark (they even took down extra lines that had been used the day prior). When we came back around 8pm to ride it at night, the line jumped to 120 minutes but I heard ending up being closer to 140 minutes for the real wait time. I think it was the combo of people coming after work and people saving up their FP from earlier in the day to ride as the FP line was crazy.

I can't wait to head to the resort on a Saturday and wish we didn't have a wedding to go to this weekend, otherwise we would be there. It was truly heavenly!! :cloud9:

Well first off, I'm so happy to hear people agree with me and been sharing their own experiences the last few weeks as well! It sounds like some people went different days as me and had basically the same experiences!

And again, I want to make it clear, I obviously dont want to give people the idea the parks are dead or anything, they ARE busy, but just very, very managable and well spread out! I think so many people were expecting it to be wall to wall people and huge lines for everything, to now see 90% of the attractions well under an hour after hearing all these horror stories of what they had in their minds have, so far, is really a welcome sight!

Like I said, the REASON I made this thread because like Hydroguy I just kept reading all these doomsday threads and that DLR would be insufferable all summer long, CL would be swamped, creating this tsunami to the rest of the resort and none of that has remotely happend. In fact, DCA, which still has limited capacity compared to DL has not needed to shut down its gates one single day even though it has had record days attendance! So its busy but not INSANE busy as people were predicting.

I think because of Harry Potter at IOA opening a few years back and as recently OMDD which was total chaos I think gave people these crazy impressions that the park was just going to be mobbed like never before. All the horror stories of people waiting HOURS just to get inside Wizarding World, there was queues just to see the shops and the ride with 5+ hour waits gave people the same thing could happen to DCA. Of course what wasnt really talked about that while HP was swamped, the rest of IOA and Universal Studios was pretty much normal capacity that entire summer. People only focused on the crazy waits for the land itself. And like with CL and DCA, they seem to have that in mind.

But yeah, nothing even like that for CL. There was no queue to enter AS people were predicting (and some even suggested Disney make FPs just to get INSIDE the place). There are no 30 min waits just to get inside a shop and outside of RSR and LFT EVERYTHING else in the place is managable. Cozy Cones looked like it was going to be 1+ hours just to get pop corn in the beginning, but now that has fallen to reasonable waits as well. It took 20 mins to get my Chili Cone last weekend. In fact even though the area isnt all that big, CL was built to handle the crowds well and even with the shops being a bit smaller than expected has no problems getting people through now.

So yes, I dont think the crazy ideas that people had all about these ensuing insane crowds will remotely happened this summer. And I wasnt completely immuned to it myself. Even though I thought there was way too much hyperbole over it being packed for months and years on end, I even assumed the first few weeks would just be insane. I expected DCA to had closed its gates at some point opening weekend, especially opening day, but that never happened! So I was surprised too. And as for the crowds that are there, as someone even said, DCA being more busy has made it a better park in many ways! The energy and excitement of the park is truly evident now and since 80% of the attractions in the place is easy under 45 mins thus far makes it a fun park to be in. I actually ENJOY DCA being busier now! Except RSR lol.

But I do want to say DONT change your plans either of course! Its ALWAYS better being safe than sorry! As one poster said, still keep to your plans. If you plan to go early, still go early! If you want to go in September, go in September. And I'm not suggesting people just show up in the middle of the afternoon in July and expect to just jump on everything and can grab all the FPs. Again, still go early and plan like its going to be busy because it might be and yes if you want to do RSR, you are going to have to take out some serious time for it no matter what you do outside of showing up at rope drop and riding it at opening.

I think most of us have simply been saying DONT make all these postponements and radically change dates to avoid the 'crowds' either. There is ZERO reason to wait a whole year to go to the resort if you can go this year. None in fact! Besides the fact there is ALWAYS something new and it will be busy, this summer is proving its going to be a very breezy time even with all the new additions with just a tad bit of planning. It is amazing how many rides have litterally been under 10-20 mins basically daily and like I said FPs have been around until late evenings. Even WOC doesnt sell out until well into the night as before and like Sunday proved, it didnt at all!

So yes, STILL be prepared, but lets stop with the hypberbole. The summer is shaping up to be one of the best I seen. Not with just a rejuvenized park, but a resort that is finding a great balance between the two parks and we now have LOTS to do and reasonable waits to do way more than planned! This is the best of both worlds! I will probably be there 9 more times the next two weeks with how great its been! :)

Wish I was going Post-HG (post Hydroguy -- saw that in another thread - LOL).
YES, I'm very thankful for the fact we're going Post HG. However, I'd also like to say thanks to fctiger for this post. I was stressing a bit, have to admit, but this thread, and all the people posting in it, have certainly put my mind at ease.

Thanks!
:thumbsup2

Are weekends better than weekdays now? Any guess for best weeks in August?

Well Saturday is probably a little better (how ironic) but Sunday seems to be like the other week days thus far! So yes, it looks like if you want to go on a day with the least crowds, it will be Saturday.

Only guess for August is that it will probably remain the same until the middle of the month when more Aps are no longer blocked. And even then, I dont see MASSIVE crowds because kids start going back to school then like they do every year!

Oh and BTW, but it looks like the AP EE maybe not as popular as they thought it would because yesterday when I got my SM FP, with it came with another ticket promoting AP EE days and that I should register for it with directions how to do it!

So it looks like the idea APers were going to completely take advantage of this thing in full force isnt quite happening as I predicted. I think its a great perk, but probably one not truly needed if go weekly or monthly as it is!

This is good news because I will be at the 3 day cut off for trying to get in to one when I go and activate our APs and I'm hoping it isn't full. At the very least I was thinking we could get in to the DL one.

I was there last week (6/22-6/28), and I agree that crowds were manageable at both parks. Someone asked up-thread about Carsland EMH strategies. We took advantage of on-site EMH at DCA on Wednesday, 6/27. We lined up at the GCH entrance around 6:20, and we were maybe 15 people back from the front of the line.

When we got to Cars Land, we went straight to Luigi's, since I had read on the boards that RSR often did not get going right away, and we didn't want to waste our time in line. There was nobody going to Luigi's at all, so we were the first people on! After one ride on Luigi's, we headed to the RSR single rider line. (We were a group of adults, which made this feasible.) By the time we got in the single riders line, RSR was just getting going, and we rode it three times in a row in single rider, with almost no wait any time.

By that time it was almost 8:00 am, and we could see the huge mass of people behind the rope entering Cars Land, so we got the heck out of there and went over to Paradise Pier to ride TSMM and Screamin, both with no wait.

I guess after that EMH experience, my advice is this: If you have a group that can do single rider, such as adults or teenagers, do it, rather than wasting your time in the standby or fastpass queue! Also, if you want to do Luigi's, consider going there first to avoid the long lines later in the day. We had seen that lines for Mater often were reasonable at night, so we skipped that ride entirely in the morning and saved it for the evening, which we really found to be the most enjoyable time to just stroll around Cars Land, with the neon all lit up.

We already registered for our DCA EE so I can't see that calendar any more, but as of last week there were only a couple of dates that were unavailable. Unfortunately I didn't think to write them down, but I know one was late Aug.

I just checked and all dates are still open for DL right now. :thumbsup2

Thank you for this thread and all the great information. I was already worried because we usually try to go during off peak times, and we are going in July this time. (Next week!!!! Yay!!!!!) The OMG threads were making me seriously nervous! :scared: I am the most impatient person and I hate long lines with a fiery passion! It will be great no matter what, but this thread has been a much needed balm to my worried little soul. :flower3:

Oh Thanks for letting me know! I still have hope! :cloud9:

I've said in my Christmas Superthread before, "Don't be scared; be prepared."

It's very encouraging that things don't seem to be unbearably crowded so far!:cool1::banana:

To kind of put things in perspective, I would imagine that the 'key' here is that people conjure up images of crowds in their minds that are far worse than what the reality will turn out to be. So if someone expects the worst, then in all likelihood they will return and say it wasn't that bad. Anything that's better than what was imagined will seem like a relief!

However, I have found - and the subject of crowds comes up in my Halloween and Christmas Superthreads all the time - that to not expect crowds is just asking for someone to come back and say, "It was a lot more crowded than I expected!":rotfl2:

Also, a lot of it is in personal interpretation - I have seen people comment on certain days they were in the parks and they labeled them as "so crowded I won't go back again during that time," whereas other people who were there on the same exact days will return and say, "It wasn't that crowded at all!":rotfl2::rotfl2: That always amuses me!

I've only personally seen DCA in a really 'uncrowded' (nearly empty by comparison) state a few times - one of the days was Friday, September 16th last year (because everyone was in Disneyland for the Halloween festivities) and one of the days was Monday, December 5th of last year as well. The other time was maybe back in September 2007! I know to not expect that kind of luck again in the near future, but it's great to know that things are not as ominous as predicted or expected!:dance3:

Really cool info. (Now wishing we had EMH!)

Did you (or anyone) happen to notice what happened at 8 AM? Does everyone rush to RSR -- making doing Luigi's first a viable strategy -- or do people spread out between the three rides?

I'm considering the strategy arrive early, get in at 7:30ish, head to rope drop, have one member of the party go get in line for RSR FP, everyone else hits Luigi's, return later in the day for RSR and ride Mater's then too.

This makes some sense to me. If it's CA AP people (esp. locals) - that's REALLY early to get up and get to the park if they aren't staying nearby. Add in traffic too.

I will be watching the boards to see if the hotel EE and the AP EE are offered in the late fall and if so, which is better for us to try. I'm really hoping it's not offered on our trip because that would mean it had slowed down significantly and that's just super early for us. We want to go the first full week in Nov.
